Resolution not supported

Hi,

I have a new TiVo box and it is not working with my 46inch Samsung HDTV. It says "resolution not supported".

My TV should receive most resolutions, including 720p and 1080p. TiVo box works fine with an LG, 24inch TV with output 720p. It is odd that TiVo box doesn't detect the Samsung display automatically.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Thanks a l lot.

Re: Resolution not supported

As far as I can tell that TV is locked to NTSC's 60Hz for 720 and 1080 resolutions. It won't do the 50Hz that PAL does in the UK

So as the TiVo will output HD @ 50Hz, it's possible that the TV doesn't know what to do with the input.

Re: Resolution not supported

Nothing within the TiVo, so you'd need an adaptor.

Next stop Amazon!

I assume so, yes.

This looks as if it may work: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00W9DJMNC

Re: Resolution not supported

Is TiVo producing that error message or the TV?

Re: Resolution not supported

The TV is producing the error message. TV is also asking to change output resolution on the external device.

I changed the output resolution in Tivo box (using another TV) but nothing changes. I have tried auto settings in Tivo box and also selected all possible resolution (including 1080p passthrough), without success.

Re: Resolution not supported

You've definitely connected the TiVo to the correct HDMI port on the TV?

Re: Resolution not supported

Yes, I have tried both HDMI ports on my SAMSUNG TV and 3 different HDMI cables.

The cables and the set up work with my LG tv at 720p resolution.

Thanks.

Re: Resolution not supported

Does the Samsung TV have a SCART socket?

Also, what model is it?

Re: Resolution not supported

It doesn't have a scart input... only HDMI and component. I bought a scart to HDMI cable, but have't tried that yet.

TV model is: UN46EH5000FFXZC -- it was bought in Canada. That may have something to do with it?

Re: Resolution not supported

So is there anything that can be done to convert TIVo's 50 Hz to 60 Hz? Perhaps an adaptor?

Are there any output settings that could be changed in the Tivo box?

Thanks.
