Netflix Sound Quality

I am experiencing poor sound quality when watching programmes on the Netflix App though my Tivo box. I use a surround sound system and the HD sound indicator illuminates on the receiver, but the sound is very poor especially when people are talking in a room for some reason. The sound is very splashy/sibilant.

It occurs on programmes such as Bloodline, Orange is the New Black, Breaking Bad etc.

This does not occur when I watch on my iPad on the same programmes.

Can anyone advise on how to resolve this.

Hi davisk48,

 

There is currently an issue affecting Netflix across multiple platforms, including the TiVo®.

We are working with Netflix to try and get this sorted out as soon as possible. In the mean time, although switching to Dolby Digital to PCM isn't ideal, it does stop sound glitches from occurring.

We will update everyone as soon as we can get these Netflix issues resolved.

I'm very sorry to learn about the problems you're experiencing with your TV service at the moment.

 

Does this issue occur when watching live or recorded content on your TiVo® box? I've been able to locate your account and run some tests on the set top box from our end for you.

 

We're not detecting any issues from our end at the moment, if you're experiencing this issue on live content too, could you try it without the surround sound to see if the sound quality improves?

I only experience these sound issues when watching films on Netflix through the TIVO box.  Live tv and recorded programmes on the TIVO box are absolutely fine.  I have been experiencing this problem with the Netflix app for some time now.

Thanks for responding!

Would you be able to check your Dolby audio settings on the TiVo® for me?

 

Just go to the Home menu and select Help and Settings, Settings, Audio, Dolby Digital and let me know if it's set to Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital to PCM.

I tried switching over to "Dolby Digital to PCM" and this stopped the sibilance, but I lost the dolby digital hd sound.  The prologic sound on this selection is obviously inferior.

 I find it strange that the sibilance/spashy sound only occurs in scenes where people are talking in a room.

Are there any updates on this? I'm a new customer and have noticed this problem is persistent when my son watches Netflix on TiVo.

I would just like to add that I have been experiencing this sound problem for well over a year and I presume you have been aware of it for some time. Is there any estimate on how much longer it will take to resolve ?
