Mains hum

I have a mains hum on my HiFi system whenever I connect the TiVo box using the hdmi. The hum seems to originate at TiVo go through the tv and through blu Ray into the amp. If I unplug the TiVo from tv it goes.
I phoned Virgin tech and they did not know what a mains hum was!

Re: Mains hum

What is know as a ground loop. the hum is created because of a difference in voltage between 2 ground points. that being your mains and the VM cable ground. With normal analog audio you could install a ground loop isolator that is basically 2 small transformers so completely isolates the 2 grounds. don't think there is anything like that for hdmi.

200Mb(SH2 SH2AC Hub 3.0), 2 X V6 TV XL, Phone M. 100Mb Business (Hitron Hub).

Re: Mains hum

Thank you - not very impressed with the lack of support from Virgin over this.
