The last few weeks when I have recorded a program, when I've gone to watch it the picture and sound is totally distorted. This has happened about six times now. I have just checked another program and this was distorted on the actual channel (I was recording it but it was still on live tv). The only consistency is that it is the HD channels, which I think I pay extra to watch. I am pretty fed up with virgin media at the moment. It definitely is more expensive than my sky subscription was and these distorted recordings / channels are convincing my boyfriend and I to return to sky.
The first thing I would do is try a new HDMI lead. If this fails to correct the problem then phone faults (150 from your VM phone) & get the box checked out. Fault callouts are covered by your rental, so there is no charge for this.
