Connect TiVo to home network

http://help.virginmedia.com/system/selfservice.controller?CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=13730&CURRENT_...

This is similar to the setup guide on the TiVo.  The TV is not in the same room as the superhub, and powerline adapters while a nice idea is not something I have invested in.  I have a wireless dongle, is there any chance I can use this instead of an ethernet connection?

Edit:

This might point the way:

Before you embark on the journey of connecting your TiVo to the home network it's best to check if you really need to.

There are very little extra features that become available once you've done so (even less if you only have one TiVo). Therefore can I ask what extras you'd expect after connecting your TiVo to your home network?

Re: Connect TiVo to home network

What do you mean by a 'wireless dongle'? If it connects by USB then it's not the right thing.

You need a universal wifi adapter which is Ethernet-connected.

Re: Connect TiVo to home network

http://support.netgear.com/product/WNDA3100v1

I tried plugging it into my windows 7 PC and there apart from a light on the adapter there was no recognition that it was plugged in.  The same with the TiVo.

I see that there may be a basic problem of the TiVo not having way to allow the WDNA3100's software to install.

http://www.netgear.com/home/products/connected-entertainment/gaming-home-theater/WNCE2001.aspx#tab-f...

This one which I stumbled across says

"Universal compatibility—Works with any device with an Ethernet port
Wirelessly connect a home theater device to the Internet.

CD-less, wireless installation"

With regards to why I would want to use it is because of the clunkyness of the TV remote's keypad vs a keyboard and even vs an iPad.

I'd been told the TiVo was capable of being controlled via any device on the network.  I'm using TV anywhere which (AFAIK) allows me to watch TV on 2 connected devices.

Its just ease of use for zero outlay was why I wanted it.

On a side note, I paired an iPad via the youtube app to the TV but when I went to demonstrate it I had to enter a passcode again.  Is this intended?  Shouldn't it remember that its been paired before?

Re: Connect TiVo to home network

The WNDA3100 is a USB device and, as I previously stated, it will not work to wirelessly connect the TiVo to your home network.

The device used must be an Ethernet connected device.

The WNCE2001 you mention is actually the one I use. It works very well connecting my TiVo wirelessly to my Superhub2. It connects to TiVo's Ethernet port and is powered from TiVo's USB port.
