C501 and slow boxes!

Hi, I'm continuously having issues with My Recordings and On Demand services whereby I am faced with error code C501. This is becoming very tedious and I'd appreciate any advice.

Also, my TiVo boxes are very slow whilst maneurvering from menu to menu, is there a firmware update or something that I can run?

No, I haven't rebooted as we've only Virgin for about 8 weeks and I have 5 boxes - all of which are terribly slow. We can be dat hanging for 20seconds in some cases whilst we navigate from one screen to another, for example, when selecting movies or in demand. What can I do to attempt to speed the boxes up. I'd appreciate advice... Thanks Dave.
