Speed drop in Modem mode

Hi gurus, grateful for some help  ..........

Got my superhub and upgrade to 60mb , but as the hub's wireless range compared to my original netgear router was poor I decided to put the hub into modem mode and use the netgear router, which improved the wireless signal again. Only problem was I'm only getting 20mb download ????? help please!!!

Type the following address into your browser. (or just click the link below)

http://192.168.100.1

The default username is: admin, the default password is: changeme

Click the red "advanced" link near the bottom of the page, then click the "connection" link on the top left hand side.

The window should now have all of your upstream and downstream stats there.

Copy all that, and paste it into a new post here.

Sorry that this sounds all a bit pointless, but we just want to check that all the signal levels, and indeed the configuration on the modem is 60Mb.

If at all possible, unplug the netgear, and wire directly into the right hand port near the power supply with 1 pc.

Use speedtest.net as your speed tester. If you live up north, use preston, if you live down south, use London Namesco.

Re-run the test and check your speeds then. If you get 60Mb, it's probably something to do with your netgear router.

Oh, and it may take anywhere up to 7 days for VM to respond to any posts. With it being a bank holiday and all that, it may be a bit longer.

Re: Speed drop in Modem mode

Can you plug a pc/laptop into that port I pointed out? We just need to eliminate the netgear as a possible cause of slowdown.

Run a speedtest after and let us know?

Re: Speed drop in Modem mode

Hi hobbit31

I have just checked your connection and network segment. Everything appears to be OK at present and there do not appear to have been any network problems recently. If you are still experiencing difficulties then please re-post with the information described here taken at the time,

We have seen Kaspersky and Avast! Interfering with speeds so, if you are using either, please disable it when speed testing. Please also check that the power supply is 12Vac, 1.5A. A CAT 6 Ethernet cable is also recommended.

If you are using speedtest.net to check your speeds then we suggest that you use the Paris server option as it is reputed to be more accurate/reliable than some of the other servers. You may also find that less heavily loaded sites (e.g. speedtest.magnet.ie or top10.com) give more accurate/reliable results. Speedtests should always be run from a single, Ethernet connected PC, with no devices connected wirelessly.

Concurrently downloading multiple large files from multiple servers and adding the throughput will usually give a more accurate indication of actual download speeds than speed testing sites.

If you post the test and info from config page it should give us an indication of what is wrong.

Kind Regards,
