Re: Random Ping Spikes... Gaming VERY Annoying

Many thanks for spending some time looking into this for me Ama. I never have any other internet activity while I'm gaming. But the fact is my ping is normally around 17ms but it's randomly spiking to 40ms and back again, recently it's been peaking at around 70ms. Other players comment how I'm rubber-banding all over the place. But then moments later it'll be fine for possibly hours!!

I noticed my correctable codewords reached into the millions over the weekend and the uncorrectables hit a few hundred thousand each. Although it looks like these have now been reset.

I have no idea how important this is but I now have 245 T3 Timeouts. It looks like it went nuts on Wed with the following making up the bulk of errors:

Critical (3) No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out
Warning (5) B-INIT-RNG Failure - Retries exceeded

Re: Random Ping Spikes... Gaming VERY Annoying

Hi Nutty,

I have checked your connection to the network and I can see that there are 255 T3 timouts, however the modem itself hasn't been rebooted for some time. When you are available to do so can you please restart your modem, this will reset your connection timer and we can then monitor how many T3 timouts you are getting within a certain timeframe.

Re: Random Ping Spikes... Gaming VERY Annoying

It might be worth while signing up to http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping and running a quality test on your line to see what you are actually getting. To give you a benchmark on what a bad line looks like, take a look at my one below. Virgin Media will never be a good connection but you can get better and worse connections, so it helps to see what your connection is actually like, that way you will have more to go on with Virgin.

Re: Random Ping Spikes... Gaming VERY Annoying

I've had a few days break from gaming as it's been getting on my nerves having a terrible K/D. I've just checked and I have 12 T3 errors since I reset the modem. Also my codewords seem to be going nuts again, this can't be normal and DS-4 always seems to stick out like a sore thumb.

Re: Random Ping Spikes... Gaming VERY Annoying

I have had virgin media for just over a year. The service has been solid and great but for some reason over the last 2 weeks, I'm having the same problem as Nutty. I load up "Battlefield 3" and I have a ping of 12ms, it is stable for about 10seconds and then it jumps to 120ms or 200ms+ for two or three seconds. I have read the post above and tried resetting the hub multiple times but this has had no affect as of yet.

How is this problem fixable?
