Does an engineer need to visit to recable if I upgrade from 20MB to 50MB or is it just a case of switching me over at Virgin HQ?

They probably won't need to recable, but they do need to exchange the modem.

They recently did that. Would they need to do it again? They gave me a black Virgin branded one to replace the Motorola surfboard had.

Because at the moment you only get given a modem that is compatible with the 50Mbit service when you order the 50Mbit service
Any other modem for any other broadband service won't work with 50Mbit

Ah, would they just post the modem out to me then?

Reality states you dont need a Virgin Engineer to come out, as my install was just a modem switch over and nothing was done in the cab at all. To me or at least in some instances I think its just a money making scheme.
The engineer left saying there was some system issue and my details had not been passed through, I actually spent most of that day being passed from dept to dept in order to sort out my own 50mbit install so in theory they should be paying me to fix my own issues. (Just for the record I had to register my own new 50mbit mac addy as the engineer didnt!)
Anyway that was just my 2 penith worth.
But to tow the line yes you will need a engineer to swap your modem out.

Ah, I didn't even realise there was a charge. When I looked through the stuff earlier I didn't notice it. You wouldn't happen to remember what the charge was, would you?

as follows :-
Vermin media where doing a offer a while back for a free install but looks like they aint doing that anymore. you maybe able to haggle but I guess it depends who ya get.
| Standard Installation Or you can install your equipment yourself from | £35.00 | ||
| 50Mb broadband activation | £20.00 |

So it's £55, and having to wait for an engineer to swap the modem over?
