Hayes UBR - SuperHub, and Newsgroups

[ Edited ]

Hi people,

New to the forum, but by no means new to VM.

I upgraded to 50Mb this morning, and have got an engineer booked in for Saturday to come and perform my SuperHub installation.

Now I am sort of starting to regret my decision. I would like faster internet, however I also like having a stable connection.

I have read a lot of things about this hub and one of the things I have come across is that it might not be playing nice with Motorola equipment at the headends, in specific locations. I haven't found anybody posting from the Hayes UBR with any issues regarding it so I might be lucky.

Also have read something about new firmware for it... when? How many of the issues I read about is it supposed to fix? I am prepared to suck it and see, but I will not be happy if I have issues - and besides I am the nice one, my girlfriend will go batty if the internet doesn't work!

One last thing, what does the traffic management on newsgroups do? Does it throttle me instantly or after a certain point, at certain points of the day?

Anyway, hopefully my fears about this hub will be unfounded come Saturday.

Anybody else on Hayes UBR which can give any feedback?

Re: Hayes UBR - SuperHub, and Newsgroups

Update!

I would like to break the trend of bad reports of the Super Hub and Virgin Media techs.

The engineer visited today and installed our new hub, after a small glitch it came to life, and is now working fine and I am getting spot on speeds. Have done a few things I have read around here and all seems to be fine - but time will tell with this one...

Anyway. The engineer was very helpful, and polite, and loves dogs! Our dog was in his cage when he turned up but was very excited to see him, and asked if he could be let out which was nice.

So kudos to our engineer, if you can find out who he was then make sure he gets a good mention!

One thing, might not be his fault, partly mine as I forgot to ask, I did not get supplied with the USB dongle, could one be posted out to me please?

Apart from that, which isn't a huge issue anyway, very happy camper here and glad to see not all of the hubs are dud!

Regards,

Happy VM Customer :smileyhappy:

i think the usb dongles are not supplyed unless asked for. i also thing the engineer often never leave them as CS never add them to the job.
