Second day with Virgin Media 30Mb connection, is it so slow due to traffic management?
It has been this slow all day from the moment I have turned on my pc (which was after noon) so could this be traffic management?
From this website (Traffic Management Policy):-
Weekdays: 4pm – 6pm
Weekends: 10am – 10pm
Also seen on this site, but cannot find it anymore - weekends noon - midnight
Server Status states all is well

hi
it looks like traffic management
do you have any torrent software running?
do you use gaming consoles that connect to the net?
do you do heavy downloading?
Thanks

Please see my answers below:--
do you have any torrent software running?- No
do you use gaming consoles that connect to the net? - No
do you do heavy downloading? - Yes, but I have not download a lot, I have been getting this speed from when I turned on my pc and before I had downloaded anything. I have a few things setup to download in the early hours because I know about the traffic management and fair play policy and do not want to affect my speeds in the days/evenings.

Sorry for double post - are these times right?
Weekends: 10am – 10pm
Thinking about it, I downloaded a few 4-5 GB about 3am - 7am...............would this cause traffic management to be implemented?

Not much this week (only the 4-5GB as mentioned above) , only got Virgin Media installed on Thursday morning/early afternoon

hi
standard traffic management is from 10am till 4pm and 4pm till 9pm and thats all day everyday
the link that you supplied was if someone s doing heavy downloading all day everyday and racked up alot of bandwidth/peer to peer
http://virginmedia.com/traffic
thats the link you want, that would give you the info you want
and no not that early in the morning
if you follow this link
and also click here to do a speed test
also can you tell us if your connection to the router is Ethernet or wireless
if your on wireless try to change the wireless channel (also try to download inSSIDer that will tell you what wireless channel isn’t being used or the least used)
and post all the results here makes it quicker at diagnosing the issue
Thanks

Tried laptop with network cable and wireless - both the same speed.
Currently testing via ethernet.
Not sure what all this means, but looks similar to the figures on the link you provided.
