Since when have prices decresed year on year? Mine just increased mid contract from April

I was referring to prices per Mbps per month, it was 50GBP/Mbps/month way back when, and by the time VM have completed their upgrades if you take a phone line VM will be charging 21p / Mbps / month on the top product which will even if STM'd 24x7x365 would be 42p / Mbps / month.

I'm sorry what!?

That doesn't make an ounce of sense. I signed of for Virgin Broadband 50mb I pay £35 a month. The price went up, it was a price increase regardless of how you look at in any matter. My price did not drop, it increased.

Upgrades asides the products did not get cheaper and I didn't request to be upgraded. if they turned around and said we're dropping you all £5 now upgrading then happy days but they're not. To make matters worse I still pay for a service that I've never ever fully recieved due to insane levels of utilization in my area (another topic, 9 months on still not fixed)

Makes perfect sense, in your case once speed is doubled you'll have the price per Mbps halved. If you phone up you can get the pre-upgrade to 100Mbps down and 5Mbps now.

Either way my point stands, year on year broadband prices, per Mbps, have been getting progressively cheaper. Again I point out that I was talking about price per Mbps.

To say they aren't getting cheaper is easy, take 10Mbps then change to 50Mbps and your broadband has gotten more expensive because you pay more overall, that you're paying less than half as much per Mbps is the issue, not the total spend.

If you really dislike this that much phone up and ask for an early upgrade, or simply leave VM. 25Mbps is adequate for 5 HD streams, get the 100Mbps pre-upgrade and you're up to 50Mbps, more than enough for 5 HD streams plus some downloading.

At the end of the day if you can get a better deal elsewhere you'd be a fool not to.

I'm not being upgraded till the middle of 2013 yet new traffic management effects me now. Therefore I am worse of and paying more due to the april fee increases. I can't leave as I'm locked in a contract and at the end of the day it may be adequate for 25 HD streams but it's not what I signed up for and now what I agreed to pay for.

I asked for an early upgrade and was declined

to be fair you had 30 days to get out before 1st of April. If you didnt know then tell VM because you should have been informed with the letter you had (it was on here too)

Thanks for your answer. That basically means that in my case after ~2 hours of gaming and streaming it at a 2.7k bitrate (using less than 1/3rd of my 10Mb upload) my internet will be crippled to the point where I won't be able to stream at all for the next 5 hours. What are the chances of these STM levels being reviewed, perhaps based on the utilization in a particular area? Or is it a hard and fast rule for all regions? I haven't followed the STM history since I went for 100Mb to avoid this nonesense.

Buying and downloading 1 Steam game = Going over the fair use download limit 2x

Streaming said game at 720p for an hour and a half on JustinTV etc. using less than a 1/3 of the available upload = Going over the fair use upload limit

How is that not fair use? PLEASE reviews the limits so that it actually makes the distinction between scumbags abusing the service and people who are just trying to make FAIR use of the connection they paid for. Its like having a car thats really fast but you can only drive it for 13mins then it takes 5 hours to refuel.

Re: Traffic Management Changes - Questions, Discussion and Feedback thread

I never got to 1.5GB and it's running very slow - as you can see from my post above.

Good luck with anything that you wish from your connection as it's just not gonna happen :smileysad:

Yes, and that's probably good advice for anyone on a 50Mbps connection. Call them up and ask for the 100Mbps upgrade. Twice the download limit and even if you hit it, you're back where you started with a connection capable of 50Mbps after the 50% reduction.

However, during the conversations I've had today, if I understand correctly, they will not be willing to do this if your connected to an over-utilised part of the network.

Secondly, when I spoke to retentions today, although they offered to upgrade my 50Mbps connection to 100Mb, it was not a cost free option! I'm 5 weeks into my contract. This contract provided the first 3 months free, worth £35 a month. I was told it was not possible to give me the 100Mbps without agreeing to give up the discount. ie. it would cost me £105 for the upgrade.

I just need to give some examples. I would apprecaite it if the mods would approve the images. I don't care if you see I'm downloading BlueBloods. It's totally legal.

Firstly here is a speedtest which is about adverage for this time of day

speedtest.jpg

But here's the killer. I used my connection a bit before 10am today and then not until just after 4PM.. Here's my totals for the last 24 hours (which is still well below even the 10GB 4-9 limit)

totals.jpg

AND here's my current download - LOOK at how long it's taken me to download 43MBs! Nearly 3 mins!. The 1.7mbps was a burst it's sitting at around 738kbps.it hit 56mbps and then seems to have been beaten down.

Bad Speed.jpg

I will happily get a screenshot of my backup connection doing the 9mbps if they want to argue that Sky is slow - NO YOU are slow!

This is painful - and until it's sorted my bank account is also throttled to nothing! YOUR choice - sort it or sling your hook. Service has worked flawlessly until today. It's AFTER 9PM and STILL your stupid TM is applied!

If I give you 34p for this month service would you be happy? NO!? So why the hell do you expect ME to be with a 100th of the service!?  You've just billed us £39.75 for 2nd April until 2nd of May - Don't expect it!

Re: Traffic Management Changes - Questions, Discussion and Feedback thread

This is upsetting. I've been on 100 since it came out to enjoy no throttling. Oh well, hello BT infinity. VM have cocked this up big style.
