Thinking of upgrading from 10mb BB to 30mb...Questions...

[ Edited ]

Hello all,

I have only just a few days ago gone from M phone with Caller Display, L BB and XL V+ TV to M phone, L BB & M TV as i wanted rid of the TV service. I was told i could keep the box for free TV although i have disconnected it and put it in storage as it's not used but may come in handy some time down the line.

I am now paying £26 a month which i am happy with, i was also told i would not start a new contract.

Now i have been thinking of keeping my current package of M phone, L BB and M TV, but upgrading my Broadband from L to XL which i think is now 30mb, my understanding is if i do this i will or should be paying £31.49 a month instead of the current price of £26. Do i start a new contract though and also do i need any new equiptment i have a blue ambit modem with my own router.

As you do require new equipment i.e. the SuperHub to get 30Mbit it would be a new contract.

There would be a one off £30 fee and you are correct on the monthly price.

What about an automatic upgrade to 20mb by virgin for the old L Broadband 10mb customers who were moved from 4mb to 10mb and are the same as the m who were moved from 2mb to 10mb

mconroy there was a difference between the 2, M broadband maybe 10mb the same as L broadband but the throttle limits were different so they are not the same.

What about it? If it's anyones 'turn' then it's the XL tier, as it was last changed in 2007. BB L was in 2008 and BB M (now not on sale) was in 2009

Re: Thinking of upgrading from 10mb BB to 30mb...Questions...

All M customers on 2mb got a free upgrade to 10mb but if they downloaded 1gb of data in a certain period of time they would be capped losing 75% of their speed

All L customers on 4mb got a free upgrade to 10mb but if they downloaded 3gb of data in a certain period of time they would be capped losing 75% of their speed

(please note the cap speeds I have wrote are just examples)

So you will notice they are the same speed but the usage is totally different so they are not the same as that would have been unfair to give two package sizes which are different in price the exact same speed.

20mb does not get sold anymore and I very much doubt a free upgrade will be on the cards.

Well, I don't believe this to be fair or fair trading with differant speeds. Maybe ofcom need to get involved if speeds are not the same as advertised. I don't work for Virgin and I may go to BT who will have fiber optic soon in my area.
