Re: Looking after new customers but not the old?

You shouldnt be online with an ntl 250 if you're on 30mb. if you are waiting for an upgrade to 30Mb, then you will need a superhub, your 250 wont physically work.

Re: Looking after new customers but not the old?

New superhub arrived today & I'm impressed, had a few speed problems (connected speed via ethernet cable was between 2-3Mb but wifi dongle & PS3 a steady 27-28Mb) which were due to a setting on the computer but after phoning support it was fixed, had problems though persuading vm phone people that I'd like free upgrade to 30Mb, kept saying that I'd have to pay £27.50 to upgrade, mentioned that here members were getting upgrades for free if they had a superhub but that didn't change her mind, I persisted & she went off to converse with someone, eventually she said I could have the upgrade for free but that next bill would show both the charge of £27.50 & a credit for same, now connected speed via ethernet cable is around 27Mb, via wifi 27-28Mb & my PS3 connected via ethernet was 27-28Mb.

Haven't found how to update the software though on the modem/router's configuration page, or is that automatic?

It will be on either R30 or R36 as it picks up the new firmware at first startup.

Re: Looking after new customers but not the old?

A quick question: What does the lit blue button on the front of the superhub do if pressed? Is it for WPS?

There is a nice page all about the superhub's lights here on the virgin site entitled 'What do the lights on the Virgin Media Super Hub mean?' but essentially your suspicions are correct in that the round blue light\button readies to initiate a WPS connection.

Thanks Fred, good to know that I don't have to visit the hub's page everytime in order to connect using wps. :cathappy:

I see, we definitely had an NTL250 and the operator who did the free upgrade to the line (which is still 20Mbs from speed test) said the modem was good for 100Mbs... I thought he was lying when he said it.

Just restarted the modem and here's the speedtest

Upload is a bit low (supposed to be 2Mbs) but the DL speed has definitely not changed. I hate it when I get lied to.

So Virginmedia, how do you plead on the charge that your operators/advisors lie flatout to their customers?

Apparently the upload speed will be increased once everyone has been upgraded so anyone being upgraded from 10Mb to 20Mb will still see their upload speed at 1Mb until that happens. I personally can't see many of the old NTL modems being capable of 100Mb, I suspect of the old 250 that 20Mb would be the max it could take & I'm sure I've read that if anyone who has one & wishes to increase their speed to 30Mb+ that they'd require the superhub so that says it all.

Re: Looking after new customers but not the old?

I think the upgrade to 2Mbs upload has already happened as occasionally I've managed to hit that. I'm just peeved that the advisor we spoke to on Thursday had the gall to say the old NTL modem we had could support over 100Mbs or something like that. I'm pretty sure he got confused by the wireless transfer rate of the routers but more likely he was just making figures out of thin air.
