Re: Latency issues

Hi Simon91,

Sorry you continue to experience problems with your connection. I've had a look into your issue and I can confirm that we do have some intermittent spikes in utilisation during peak periods. (This was the case at around the time of your last post, so can surmise that it's this that impacting your gaming)

These periods remain fairly infrequent and aren't yet of a level we can raise for priority work to be carried out, but we'll monitor the issue, and should it develop, we'll get it raised as soon as we can.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Re: Latency issues

[ Edited ]

Okay thanks for looking into it cause no one else seemed to bother.

infrequent? its very frequent its everyday at the same time and its getting rather annoying cause

its that bad we give up using the internet between these times as its that shocking. Also we can not even watch a youtube video or even load social network sites because it takes that long to load! and we are very unhappy about the customer service given on the phone and the responses from the technicians. These levels arent high enough? well what is high enough when you cant use it between these times? thats a shocking excuse!

Is there a date that is should be sorted on? before we end up looking esle where.

thanks

Re: Latency issues

I'm having terrible latency at the moment; I can barely browse the web never mind anything that needs a decent response time.  The speed seems to fluctuate between 2 and 9mb and my last traceroute to google looked like this:

1 723 ms 958 ms 790 ms 10.229.60.1
 2 1023 ms 1048 ms 1037 ms midd-core-2b-ae3-1245.network.virginmedia.net [62.252.68.237]
 3 907 ms 970 ms 971 ms brhm-bb-1b-ae12-0.network.virginmedia.net [62.253.174.49]
 4 1019 ms 1188 ms 1080 ms manc-bb-1a-as6-0.network.virginmedia.net [62.253.185.134]
 5 1107 ms 1143 ms * manc-bb-1b-ae0-0.network.virginmedia.net [62.253.187.178]
 6 1136 ms 1212 ms 1249 ms tele-ic-3-ae0-0.network.virginmedia.net [212.43.163.70]
 7 1305 ms 1361 ms 1203 ms 138-14-250-212.static.virginmedia.com [212.250.14.138]

A pathping showed a very high packet loss at 10.229.60.1.

If I'm lucky the above *virginmedia.com results drop down to 300-600ms. not sure why my connection routes through birmingham from middlesbrough, sites that use IP for ads and speedtest never used to pick me up from there so I can only assume its a recent change.

Worse it's not just a single hop but that the delay product is nearly consistent end-to-end which indicates either you're saturating your connection with concurrent background sockets or your CMTS/linecard/port/cable segment is way over-committed!

Re: Latency issues

Hi Simon91,

I have checked your connection, all seems to be stable, and also the levels in your modem are within limits, I can still see the slightest utilisation on your network segment, this would only cause small periods of slow speeds, but no intermittency.

Kind Regards,

Re: Latency issues

Hi Vetis,

Have you tried a tracrt or ping to your router?

The pings you have posted seem awfully high on the first hop.

Re: Latency issues

Hi,

your figures are wrong across the line somewhere because my connection is UNUSABLE for any gaming, VOIP or anything that requres a steady connection,  there is huge amounts of packet loss over everything no matter what it is.

thanks

Re: Latency issues

Hi Simon91

have just checked your connection and network segment. Everything appears to be OK at present and there do not appear to have been any network problems recently. If you are still experiencing difficulties then please re-post with the information described here taken at the time, together with traceroutes to bbc.co.uk (no WWW) and any other sites which are causing you problems.

Kind Regards,

Re: Latency issues

Well if your saying that how come somewhere along the line somethings being messed up because

the packet loss i get can be up 30% and it affects everything web browsing and espeically games.

The web browsing becomes so slow that theres no point using it and the speed during the day and the loss is getting worse so somewhere there has to be something wrong else i wouldnt of had this problem for over a year now and its finally got the worse point recently which is all day when no games can be played with out lag issues.

i have already done a trace route before and they said looks like theres nothing wrong but there is if we are still getting the issues and the issues are getting worse. Is there a fix date for this problem as im not the only one with it?

thanks
