When me and friends first upgraded to fiber optic e.g 10mb+ it was running smoothly and hosting games over xbox live E.g Call of Duty. But over the past few months we've been experiencing " Lag Spikes " which causes one of our hosts to lag everyone else than either disconnect everyone out of the game or cause the host to leave. You might say that this is because one of us is 10mb, but we vary. We have two friends at 10mb, one at 20mb and one at 50mb. The host is normally the 10mb and 50mb but this happens on all our connections every now and then.
Does anyone else encounter this issue with hosting or even in general. We still experience a lag spike that can occur for 3-15 seconds. This lag spike also happens on other games like World of Warcraft which is on pc and not xbox so it will not be xbox related. This also happens when im connected direct without a router so it isnt a router issue.
Its gotten to the point where im not doing anything on xbox and just talking to friends in xbox live chat, and it just kicks me out of chat because of this lag spike, it is getting quite annoying and i would like some help on this issue.
Ive posted this on gaming and no response in about 2 months. So I would like some help or response to this issue.

Hi trippii,
I have checked the network and all looks good for the past 24 hours.
If this happens again can I ask you to download 2 files simultaneously from our gamefiles site (http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com) for a couple of minutes and let us know the combined speeds. Once you have completed this test can you perform a traceroute (type tracert bbc.co.uk from your Command Prompt and press Enter) and post the results here. If you're using a router can you remove this while performing these tests.
Also would you advise of your modem power levels when the fault is happening. As I mentioned I can not see any fault on the network, if you advise of a few specific times when it happens I can check the network for anomalies at that time.

In advance I must say that english is not my native so please be understanding.
I experience exactly same thing. It's like modem completly loses connection for 3-5 seconds and then you catch up with events in a second or end up being kicked for not stable packet exchange. So I feel your pain. Moreover as I dig through internet forums many are in the very same boat. I hear that only those with 50mb speed are free from lags.
My connection speed is 10mb and I had totaly no problems with traffic till few months ago as you say. Now it totaly ruins everything, I get randomly double or even tripple packet losses. While on skype - call drops, while gaming online - kicked out or lag spiking. I've tried to call tech support.. been told to reset my modem and pc, e-mailing you also was a failure - got ignored. Decided to write here, on forums, hope that I will receive an answer.
I decided to ping www.youtube.com and here's the outcome:

Don't really understand why you asked for it, this shows nothing. If I got the loss during tracerouting it would show few times 'request timed out' in a row. I also did download 2 files from your servers and my avarage was around 600kb/s. I'd like you to know this:
1. it's not the case of reseting modem - I've tried it multiple times.
2. it's not the case of wireless router - to test it I bypassed it by establishing direct connection between modem and my pc with a wire.
3. it's not the case of wire - tested it with 2 different wires.
4. it's not the case of operational system - I checked it on my pc (Windows 7) and my laptop (Windows Vista)
5. it's not the case of spyware/viruses - checked both devices with Spyware Doctor and Norton 2010
Awaiting your answer, my regards

Thank you Paul_B for such quick reply. I pmed you all customer details and other info.
As for trippii, once your traceroute in cmd window is done right click it and choose 'select all'. Now you should be able to highlight those lines which interest you. Once you do highlight them just copy it with ctrl+c and paste where you want.
regards
Red

I agree with you on these. Ive done all these tests that you have tested, and it happens on a xbox console aswell.
