I have been with virginmedia for (I don't even know) But I know its been long ![]()
I have never really minded about my speed in till I have seen my friends 30mbs speed.
Now here is my speed.
p2p speed: http://s11.postimage.org/vh7o8ebb5/Virg_speed_1.pn
Download Speed: http://s11.postimage.org/dsfxgrzk2/Virg_speed_2.jp
The max speed I have ever got to is 2.23mbs. (Note dose tested were taken today at night around 3amish)
Here is my speedtest.net results: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2031269366.png
As you can see It says I have 19.46mbs but the max I have ever got is 2.25mbs. I have never got any higher.
Now that I have seen other speeds like my other friend who has 50mbs and he downloads at 38,46mbs I know there is something wrong!
Am paying for speed that I am not getting :<

Hello
Running just 1 download file at a time isnt enough to test download speed you will need to try at least 3 at a time to max out your connection. Also you download speed for the one you show is MB not Mb so if you times that by 8 which gives you 17.84mbs.

MB (Megabyte) and Mb (Megabit) are different. It's very confusing, but it looks like you are getting the correct speed from what I am seeing. If you're on 30Mbs it seems you are actually only getting 20Mbs so probably need a new modem

Hi Jemil,
Looking at your speed from speedtest.net i would say your on the old legasy network ( ie ) one downstream channel, and your probably on the 20XL package with 20MB down and 2MB up, and your speed is very good at 19.460MB down witch equals 2.43Mbs.
On the other hand if your on 30meg package its no so good, a quick look at your modem stats would soon tell you what you should be getting.
Your friend with his 50MB package would seem to be getting 38.46MB downstream speed witch is 4.8Mbs, if he was getting the 50MB downstream speed he would be downloading at 6.25Mbs or their abouts.
I wonder if that makes sense Jemil, i would be interested to no if your speed drops like mine in the evening, sometimes mine is as low as 2MB down and 2MB up.

Hi Jemil,
Sorry i didnt answer your question, if you get full 60MB downstream on a good day you should get 7.5Mbs unless its a very slow site. : )

A minor "nit" but I wish posters were a little more consistent in their choice of B(ytes) and b(its) nomenclature as it can be confusing to some of us Network "beginners"! ![]()
Presumably in context you mean ~60Mb(its/s) provisioned nominal service tier downstream equivalent to ~7.5MB(ytes/s) actual measured (which allows for ~8 to 10% typical DOCSIS overheads)?

Hi Tony,
Sorry if i confused the issue, that is exactly what i meant tony, but you put it so much better than me, you really do have a way with words. ![]()
