Reading through these forums, it seems that many people who are on a 10mbconnections are assuming or have been told that when their free upgrade comes - they will be doubled to 30mb and NOT 20.
I have just called VM and asked them to clarify this so asked if I would be doubled to 30mb or just to 20mb and they confirmed that I will indeed only be doubled to 20mb.
Is this correct? They also told me that my Scientific Atlanta modem WILL be able to cope with a 20mb connection - others have told me that I will require a Superhub for this?
Can someone clarify all the above for me as I am gettnig conflicting information fromVM!!!

modem should be ok for 20meg download - it may not do the 2meg upload when it comes in - its pretty old and you may be entitled to a free super hub to replace it - thats the key to 30meg really - i believe that if you have a superhub then you can request 30meg when the speed doubling happens in your area
the best people to talk to is retentions -
retention - 150 from VM phone or 0845 454 1111 [option 1 or 2] then option 5 option 2 - dont worry about the i want to leave messages - uk call centre open 8 'till 8 Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm on Saturday and closed sundays

that apart - the modem he has will not do the 2meg upload speeds i believe - plenty of posts on here say that - so he should be able to get a super hub now
retentions should arrange that or if he waits for a staff member they should sort it
once he has that in place 30meg should happen on doubling or at least with a phone call

Rescheduled a SH for delivery for tomorrow so will set it up in Modem mode (after reading all the horror stories about its Router mode!) and use that with my existing D-Link 615 router on my 10 meg connection.
Hopefully when the double speed comes around Oct-Dec time I will be bumped up to the 30 mb.

try it without the d-link - they work well for some - i look after one for my daughter - it is rock solid - small house - but covers that - everything wireless - 3 laptops - loads of phones and a ipad - if it does not work then you have the d-link

goodadvice adacom - thanks!
If my SSID on my current router is 'Bob' and the wifi password is 'Stevens' and I use the same details on the SH router, I assume all my laptops, iPads, games consoles will all connect ok using these same details?

good question - never tried it but it should work as long as you also set the security the same - just make sure you turn the d-link off first

Deans, yes it will work if you change the SSID and passkey to exactly the same as the previous router. (ensure that you are using the same encryption type, i.e WPA and WPA2 will not give you a seamless transfer as far as I am aware. You'd then have to manually re-do it all.
I have 3 routers (all with the same SSID / Passkey / WPA2), and if I turn one off, and a new one on, they all pick it up immediately without having to do anything.
Ipad, galaxy s2, wifi printer, laptops, ps3 all seamlessly change with no interaction from my end.

.....cheers for this Nex. Will give it a go once the SH arrives! 👍
