Could be a lot of things.

1. Check what your processor use is during the test. You can do this in task manager. If it is close to 100% during the test then your processor is not coping with the load. Flash speed tests are very heavy on processor use. You will only improve this by upgrading your processor.

2. What server are you using for the test. I find speedtestnet - London - NAMESCO the best. Also try http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/

3. Are you using Firefox for your speed testing? If so try IE9 or Chrome.  If that solves the problem, I can help you put that right in Firefox.

Re: can you help whats rong with my speed test

I would guess its your antivirus slowing it down. Kaspersky is one of the worst offenders.

Go to your antivirus and temporarilly disable the 'Web Shield' or any kind of live protection that would cause the antivirus to scan data as it is downloading. If you cant find anything then you could close your antivirus down completely but its probably not recommended.

Once you have done that just re test and it will stay stable

Re: can you help whats rong with my speed test

Hi sc00terx,

I am sorry to hear you have been facing some issues with your speeds of recent.  I have just checked your connection and network segment. Everything appears to be OK at present and there do not appear to have been any network problems recently. If you are still experiencing difficulties then please re-post with the information described here taken at the time, together with traceroutes to bbc.co.uk (no WWW) and any other sites which are causing you problems.

We have seen Bulldog interfering with speeds so please disable it when speed testing. Please also check that the power supply is 12Vac, 1.5A. A CAT 6 ethernet cable is also recommended.

Speedtests should always be run from a single, ethernet connected PC to the modem, with no devices connected wirelessly.  Concurrently downloading multiple large files from multiple servers and adding the throughput will usually give a more accurate indication of actual download speeds than speed testing sites.

Kind Regards,
