Today we had TV and 100mb broadband installed, when i got home i got on my laptop expecting something pretty good, wow was i dissapointed.
Im on a wireless laptop btw.
Done some speed tests, and not made for good reading, highest i have got is 83mb and that was when i connected with an ethernet cable, highest wireless was about 60, and the rest not got higher than 30, some even less than 10mb, basically the results have bounced all over the place, But so as my signal from the hub to the laptop, with it upstairs its is constantly changing between 2 to 5 bars.
I have been on the phone 3 times with VM today and got nowhere.

speedtests lie - i can lose 10 to 15meg by switching between servers on speedtest.net - at best they are an indication
wireless will struggle - or can struggle - you need a good card to get full speed - the superhub is not the best on wifi for distance - go into settings on the hub - 192.168.0.1 - name - admin - password - changeme and make sure its on 2.4Ghz and the mode is 145
as i say its not the best on wifi - if you have a wifi router you may get better results with the hub in modem mode
and just to be sure the engineer got it right post your stats from the config pahe in the hub - power levels etc

Thanks for the reply.
Few questions:
1. It is on 2.4Ghz, and is 145 mode better than 300?
2. Yes i do have a wifi router, but is it easy to put the hub into modem mode?
As for the engineer, when he installed it today VM was down in the area, and he told me to do it myself when it came back on, i did so i have probably done something wrong somewhere, Because i could set it up throught the engineers page, so where about is the config page and what sort of details are they? Pardon my stupidity but routers/modems are a weaker point of mine, sorry.

2.4 and 145 are said to be better - the new default will be that
config page is seen by logging in 192.168.0.1 name - admin - password - changeme - once in look for the connection page - download levels should be -1 to 7 ish - if they are not then they need adjusting by an engineer - post the page here
whilst you are in there have a look at the page for modem mode - its literally a matter of ticking the box - note the port where to plug the lan cable into and add your own wireless router
log in address changes if you want to go back to full hub mode - 192.168.100.1
simple as that

yes thats it - they look ok on the whole - at the top end but i think ok - not sure about the last one on the download power levels at 40.8 - seen that before and i think its a rogue and not being used by your system - someone else needs to conform - if it is part of your system then its faulty
the vm staff look at threads after about 3 to 7 days from the LAST post so dont bump it - you can try your own router - see if that improves things - thats seperate - you can always go back to the full super hub

Thanks for all your help mate, Im going to ring them in the morning see if they can get someone out, it wasnt done properly in the first place so would like them out, plus the cable into the hub isnt very long, so cant move that anywhere and it right next to the tv etc, which according to VM staff member on the phone, that isnt ideal.

Spoke to VM on the phone again today, they controlled my laptop from there end and done a few things, and was getting around 55mb through, he then said i wont get anymore as my laptop needs a gigabyte network adapter, i wasnt sure as i thought he was just probably trying to fob me off, so is this true?
Also, on the Playstation 3, at most im only getting about 16mb through to that, is there anyway i can resolve that?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandwidth_(computing)
dont know much really - but the chart marked - Internet connection bandwidths - suggests he might be right on the laptop
ps3 is 802.11 b/g so its going to do no better - distance from super hub may also come into effect
on 29-02-2012 15:57
so the ps3 doesnt support n then.
Would doing your earlier suggestion of putting hub into modem mode and using a wifi router help boost the speed to ps3?
btw signal from hub to the ps3 was 97% today.
