Hello,
I just ordered 60mb BB with Phone and it is due for install next wed, howeever we had a person come to look at our home today and because of the people who used to live here before he has wrote down that we already have cable which was installed like 10 years ago..(it says CABLEMEDIA) on the front of the brown box and is very old... another problem is this Brown box goes from the front of the house ALL the way to the back into our living room where we dont want it for two reasons which we said but the guy seemed to ignore ous...
firstly we have a big and crazy dog and he is always in that room and will knock it off because there is nowhere to keep it
secoundly the plugs in that room are very very bad and dangerous and we never use them becasue they always go off and we lose power in that room...
Im hoping that they can rewire it upstairs into my office but the survery person seems like he just wanted a quick job to be done on installion date... and this is NOT what i want and it cant be done..
should it be possible to rewire it UPSTAIRS into my office( just above the living room)
THANKS

you are the one having the install done its your home tbh you should be able to have it anywhere you want it and tbh if they installed on a system that was installed 10 years ago the wiring is very old and should be re done so you get the best service.
I would not go with want virgin wants to do i would go with how you want it layed, and where you want it layed and i believe you have a right to that.

Thats what i was trying to say to the Pre-Install guy who came today but it seemed like he did not want to hear any of it.. i am praying that the people who come next week have a bit more sense and respect for our services and what we wish to do in our home beuacse im already unhappy with this so called "technician" who vistied today...
he was only here for 10minutes iswell... what kind of Pre-install is this? 90% of the time he was playing with his touchpad machine and asking stupid questions.
anyone MOD can post about this or something

Anyone else can reply ..
this is really worrying me as they may say we already have cable installed and refuse to install eventhough cable was put there years ago and NOT WHERE WE WANT IT

Simple really isn't it......
When the installers arrive tell them how you want it done if they try and tell you they are doing it different ask them to leave.
Don't back down don't compromise you are paying for the service it's your home.

my guess is it will be 6 and 2x3's - i am sure he will use the cable that exists - if not you would have been booked for a cable pull back to the street cab - but from there you should be able to specify where you want the inlet to be assuming its only a matter of running up walls and going through to your office - as said tell the installer what you want - that should be enough
at a tangent - you will get a super hub which is a modem router - the wifi is not great over distance so be aware that it may not work from your office to the rest of the house - you may need to add your own wifi router if you want good cover - guess the opposite is also true - if you do mount it downstairs then you may not get wifi in your office if you require it

Im Going to be using Ethernet mostly only.. the laptops in the house are barley ever used so i dont care about WiFI but ive heard about all the issues with the SH and wifi which is another reason i want it in my office i mean direct line to SH is always better then WIFI.
Here is a picture of our Brownbox which was installed before we moved in:

Would it be possible to just rewire that and instead of it being downstairs put the wire directly upstairs..(office is above where the wires currently go)
As you can see its also very old
thank you
P.S can cabling that old and infrastrucrte that old from many years ago support the 60MB that i ordered?

Hi justasking1992,
I have answered some of your queries in your other thread, here.
In addition, as this is a new installation for yourself you can specify where you want the equipment to be installed. Assuming that the request is viable, the engineer will be able to assess this, then they will install it as you request.

Ok thank you
the installtion is on Wed and im praying i get some nice installers and that all the cables that were previously installed are up to being able to send out 60mbs/ are in good condition and not going to cut out.. like i said there cables from 10-15years ago+box.
