Buffering???

Hi VM

I am constantly experiencing buffering from youtube morning/afternoon which I never had in the past and my speed tests are never above 40mbps. I am not a heavy downloader or file sharer, just a normal surfer with occasional downloads from apple app store or itunes so why has my connection slowed down? I am connected via Ethernet so please advise.

Kind Regards

[ Edited ]

Hi mhussain14 your power levels are ok all within VM limits so i carnt see anything there that could be causing your problems. If you look on the forum there are posts regarding this issue and it seems to only affect areas with high utilisation on the UBR that you connect to that could be the reason your speed low aswell but we would have to wait for a VM forum team member to confirm that.

Could you do a trace route to youtube and post it on this thread

Regarding your speedtests what site do you use for testing ?

can you do a speedtest from this link here and post it back to this thread

 http://www.speedtester.bt.com/beta/speedtest-remote.jsp

however from your suggested link I've managed 90+mbps constantly so please advise which is correct?

this is what i got from tracerouting

Re: Buffering???

Hi mhussain14 the speedtest that you got 90+ with is correct and the speedtest.net sittingborne is wrong

also your trace route looks like your getting high pings spikes to the youtube server at that time it could be because your connected to a high subscribed UBR and its suffering high utilisation at those times. a rekon once the double speed upgrade has finished everything will be fine by then because there upgrading every area as they go along so just wait until one of the VM forum team to reply and tell you if there was any utilisation at those times.and if its bad enuff they should sort it they did my area.

Hi mhussain14,

As suspected above, I am seeing spikes of high utilisation on your cable. Although this isn't at a stage where we can pass this on to our Network Team, it is likely to be related to the high utilisation fault F001923426 on the neighbouring upstream cable. I currently have no set date available to me for the work that is intended to fix this issue, but we will advise should this change.

Kind Regards,

Re: Buffering???

Hi Jason

thanks for the info, recently streaming of youtube has improved but there are the odd occasions where it buffers and on rare occasions it does not load without me having to reload the webpage 3/4 times.

Kind Regards

Re: Buffering???

So the advert that VM posted should be pulled I guess for making claims of "no more buffering"

Hi mhussain14,

Checking our records here the you tube issue should now be resolved. If you could test a few videos and post back if you find any other issues.

Re: Buffering???

Hi jon_arn

i've tested 720 and 1080 HD videos and there has not been any problems now, however could you confirm one thing and that is the 1080 videos are streaming at 1.8MB/s is'nt that abit slow ( no buffering though ) as some 720 videos touched 2.5MB/s

Kind Regards
