Hi fellow Tivo monkeys out there. I'm after a bit of info after trawling round the forums and various threads. I have just had a 1Tb Tivo installed, which was to replace our existing 500Gb box. Instead of returning the 500Gb box we had the V+ HD box we had upstairs taken out and the 500Gb unit put in its place. Anyway, enough of the history lesson !.
Flicking through the options on the two boxes I can see that they can see each other on a media sharing page along with a message saying to use an option under my shows to share stuff but I don't see an option on the shows page yet. I also have a media access key (not an unavailable message) which the page says I can use to stream programmes to my PC.
I haven't tried hooking the boxes up to my home network yet but thought instead I'd drop in here and see what was what regards the Tivo's being media servers on my network so I can stream stuff round the house to PC's. I haven't even thought about iPad or PS 3 for viewing yet !, one step at a time hey.
A quick catch up of just where this side of Tivo is up to now it's June would be appreciated from you techy guys with yer fingers on the Virgin Media pulse, mostly because trawling round the website hasn't turned up to much yet !.
Ta,
Pete.

At the moment all you can do with the tivo connected to your network is connect your adndroid/iphone as a remote or download the US version of the ipad app and controll your tivo from that, streaming is at the moment disabled untill Virgin get permission from the content providers, I rather suspect that this will arrive in September along with the official Virgin IPad app and will (possibly) allow straming to your IPad, but this is Virgin we are talking about so best keep your fingers crossed.

You can also delete shows from the second tivo using the first one and visa versa. It's of limited use, but I do use this functionality occasionally.
I find it very frustrating that VM are taking so long to sort out the streaming; with Sky now offering fibre BB, VM need all the USP's they can get.
Multi room streaming has been part of the plan from the beginning of VM's involvment with Tivo, so in my view, content rights should have been sorted by now.

Multi roon streaming is NOT what people want. What the masses WANT is the ability to stream content either over the network to your pc, laptop, android or iOS device, regardless of what type of network topology you use.
My old pctv could do this and this is 7 years old now. We're talking about a cutting edge device here. it should be sorted, but no, virgin have dragged their heels, (unsurprisingly) and told us to wait.
Virgin Media, when will you get it through to your thick, brainless skull-like features and start listening to what your fee paying customers want.
Quite frankly, The update to the tivo's a month ago did nothing to my tivo box, (if you cut out the incredible slowdown of the main menu). The HDMI reliability issues are ongoing, the on-demand issues are ongoing, the frequant disconnects from the internet are ongoing. I'm packing my bags again and going back to Sky, seing as Virgin are robbing me of £125 for quite frankly a shocking service. no amount of appologies, retentions robots nor unsympathetic, unfathomably stupid indian call centre receptionists are going to work this one out.
GET YOUR BLOODY ACT TOGETHER AND PULL UR FINGER OUT OF YA FAT **bleep**S!!!

Actually, multi-room streaming is what a lot of people want, and depending on the license agreements that are being arranged for Virgin Media TV Anywhere your rather 'eloquently' phrased request may actually happen, albeit the likelihood of being able to download/cache that content is extremely remote.

I think what most people want is the service they pay for - i.e., channels and a TiVo box.
Yes, once you have those and you start reading up about what is possible with TiVo then people start demanding more and more for something which was not actually about when you signed up. Yes, some people mention that they were told that they could stream between boxes when they signed up but that is not the case and in those instances, people would have a valid complaint. However, for the majority of us, we signed up for TiVo software on the VM box and I for one think it's a massive step up from the V+.
However, as someone on here spelled out in another thread, the box is actually a Virgin Media box powered by TiVo software. It's not a TiVo box like the old UK TiVos or the current US Tivos. As someone else also pointed out, the US TiVo is broadcaster independent (much like buying a DVD recorder or Freeview recorder to record Freeview channels) wheras the Virgin Media box is tied in to the broadcasters and therefore Virgin Media have to negotiate rights to do stuff with the broadcasters programmes (not to mention the differences between the UK and US attitudes from broadcasters).
The thing I want the most is the TiVo app for iPad/iPhone. I used the US version when the hack worked prior to the recent update and I have to say it was great. If they are going to follow the US TiVo route and actually allow streaming and downloading through the app then all the better for the wait.
I have a V+ box in the other room so streaming between boxes is not really something I can utilise unless I upgrade (which I don't want to do). However, I can see the benefit of that to the masses more than the benefit of being able to transfer recordings to a PC.
Streaming or downloading to a PC is something that would be nice but ultimately it's way down on my list.

Agree with you 100%.

All I want to do is:-
Tivo box in Lounge connected to a Homeplug.
Tivo box in Dining Room connected to a Homeplug.
Watch recorded programmes on each box in both rooms.
I don't want to stream to PC or to the outside world, just between my 2 rooms.
I will not be sharing with anyone else so why do they have to get rights from broadcasters to achieve this as I've already paid for the programmes.
Am I missing something here?
