Sorry if this has been answered in another thread but can't find this info anywhere.. I've ordered a 500gb Tivo box, but was wondering how much HD content it can store. Was thinking about upgrading to the 1tb box but not sure if I'd ever fill the 500gb. Mind you I thought that about the V+ orginally, but that's constantly at 'critical'!
Can anyone advise? Cheers

about 50 hours of HD or 250 hrs of SD or any combination of the two for the 500 GB box

Cheers for that. Yeah that does seem a little low. Thought it would be more than that. Most of my viewing is in HD so think I may need to go for 1tb. Presumably when the box automatically records suggestions that can eat into your space without you realising it??

Suggestions don't count towards your "used" space. If space is needed they will be removed (pretty much like the recycle bin in windows in that the suggestions are on the disk but they are on borrowed time).

It's approximately 121hrs of HD on the 1TB box, and I'm assuming half that on the 500GB.
Plus, ordering the 1TB box means you're more likely to avoid the problems that seem to plague the 500GB devices!
This is roughly what you're getting yourself into (doesn't include anything to do with the 15.2 update)

Hmmm think that's a bit of a sweeping statement - I have a 500GB TiVo and have had no problems at all. It's not really fair to make a comment like that - some 500GB boxes have suffered a problem with a reboot wiping saved shows, but not all and judging by this forum not many, compared to other problems some have had with boxes regardless of size. I keep seeing posts referring to 500GB boxes being a total liability and advising people not to get one - for what it's worth I completely disagree and think they are no more or less reliable than the 1GB boxes. So there. ![]()

Thanks for the advice guys, I've taken the plunge and gone for the 1tb. Hopefully I won't experience some of the niggles and horror stories described elsewhere on the forum!! Cheers

I think you should get 1TB - its not just about recording HD - it's also about being able to record whooooooole series(s) and watch them back in the right order in your own time - and in my case I've enjoyed/watched science series 2-3 times and kept it on my drive and yet still have acres of space
