Match of the Day series links multiple show times problem

Ok, my son wants Match Of The Day recorded. It's on BBC1 on Saturday night and repeated Sunday morning.

The series link I set up always tries to record the first showing, which is Saturday night. But when my son tries to watch it, the parental control bugs him.

Thats fine, but why can't I tell TiVo to record the Sunday morning showing instead, as it doesn't require a PIN.

As far as I can see, this is a loophole in the series link functionality.

Couldnt you get it to record new and reruns, so your son can watch the Sunday morning edition ?

It is set record new and reruns, but it won't record the Sunday show as the show ID will be the same as the night before and TiVo doesn't record duplicates on series link. I could set it to record everything, however I'm not sure it would overcome the ID issue, but also I don't want all the other repeats anyway (it's shown umpteen times per week).

I'm pretty sure I didn't have the problem on V+

The only other way would be to force it to record the Sunday morning showing by ensuring all 3 tuners are otherwise busy during MoTD on Sat evening.

Hmm, that could prevent any of my wishlists from recording at the time too.

me, or at least a hole in the logic brought about by PIN and duplicate show times.

set it to record everything - should only be the 2 per week?

watch the Sunday AM pin-less episode and delete the other.

If yo set it to record "Everything" this will record the Saturday and Sunday episodes.

You wouldn't have seen the problem on the V+ as its series link is just a repeated recording at a set time on a set day until the recording doesn't appear again in the schedules.

TiVo's series link will record the earliest broadcast of a programme you want to record but only when a tuner is available and only when it meets the criteria of being either new (or if you've set the series link to record new and reruns) or a re-run that you haven't recorded in the past 28 days. This allows it to automatically choose an alterantive broadcast if a tuner is not available at the time of the first broadcast although this won't always happen if you have set the series link to only record New programmes). It also means the box can pick up the next series of a programme without you having to set the serise link again.

An alternative to using Everything is to set up a repeated manual recording for the Sunday morning. You'd just have to cancel it when the season ends and start it again next August.

I guess this will have to be the solution, and I'll have to keep maintaining the TiVo recordings.  I'll set it to keep a low number of episodes, maybe that will be the answer.

This seems to be a common theme with TiVo, the more you use it the more you have to nanny it and do housekeeping.  Frustrating.

Could you not just set it to keep one recording? I think the Sunday recording should result in the Saturday one being deleted so you shouldn't need to do any housekeeping.

Have you tried adjusting the PC settings?

I never get asked for a PIN for the late night MotD.
