1080p/24 passthrough only

My TV supports this, but I've been told its pointless. I understand TV is only streamed in 1080i.

What is the point of this option then, if its worthless?

Re: 1080p/24 passthrough only

broadcast TV is maxed at 1080i at the moment, other devices no doubt use 1080p

and, if your telly survives, i'm sure 1080p will eventually find its way to broadcast TV though I doubt i'll be around to witness it - if i am i'll probably be too decrepit to care :smileyhappy:

Re: 1080p/24 passthrough only

I didnt explain myself very well.

Why does the TiVo have the support for it, if TV isnt broadcast in 1080p? Is it purely a future safe thing?

This is from the TiVo Community:

Support for full 1080p24 output

The TiVo Premiere adds the ability to output 1080p24 without conversion to 1080i. The first beneficiary of this new capability is Amazon, which already encodes all of its high-definition VOD content in 1080p24 @ 5 Mbps. Those with compatible TVs will see 1080p output on Amazon HD.

Full 1080p24 output is also useful for playback of most 1080p computer video files

Virgin Media:TiVo is based on the TiVo Premiere so has the same display options - but there is currently no way of getting 1080p/24 content into the TiVo box in the first place

Re: 1080p/24 pass through only

We were watching Harry Potter recorded from ITVHD and it was playing at 1080p24 and my wife was not impressed. I had to turn off that function to get the 1080i 50. The 24 frame was jerky.

I am not saying it was correct in doing this but it did it.

ITV1 HD doesn't broadcast in 1080p at any frame rate so not sure why your TV switched to that

Re: 1080p/24 pass through only

How can I see what the TiVo is broadcasting in, or what the TV is outputting at?

On my LG TV if you press the OK button in the middle of the remote the TV displays the input (ie scart 1 or in this case HDMI ) on the top RHS and the screen video  info at the bottom.

On my Samsung the  I or info button on the remote does the same thing( located on upper rhs of navigation buttons.

On the TIVO go to Help and Settings----Settings----Video and it will show the output settings.

My TIVO  output was not set up by my installer. I had to set the output to HD 1080i after they had gone. They never even mentioned the settings.
