As some of you may know (or assumed due to the beard) I am a gamer. And not just of the latest AAA titles either! I'm a fan of obscure indie games and massive blockbusters alike.
So here's the deal, I want to know what you lot are playing.
I want a discussion of current gaming trends, I want recommendations and reviews of games on any and every platform: 8 -bit, 16-bit, all the way to the next Gen and beyond. What I'm looking for is for us as a community to discuss something close to my heart and thumbs: Video Games.
I'll get the ball rolling.
As you all may have seen in the previous thread, I've recently become a huge fan of Dark Souls. You'll hear a lot about it's insane difficulty and how often you'll see the infamous 'You've Died' screen and that always put me off but please, do yourselves a favour and don't let it put you off either. The developers and writers have done a great job of setting the feel of the game in a bleak and increasingly insane game world. The gameplay is fantastic, so much so that the dying is a part of it. It's a learning curve, if you died because of this, don't do it again! Cannot speak it's praise highly enough.
Has anyone else played Dark Souls? What did you think?
Knowing how much of a geek I am for this game what would you recommend for me to try next?
Skyrim on 360, brave brigade on android- I'm all about the grind.......
Prolly why I answer questions on here
Started on 8 bit, been gaming ever since
Whats the future of games?
Not what we see now. Its got to be "presence"- gaming across devices wherever you are. Kind of taking your character on your phone, tablet etc when your out, able to work on their stats etc. Total immersion - everywhere you are, the game should be pick pick picking at the edges.
We need cross platform, cross device games. At the minute I use an android emulator on my pc to take my phone/tablet etc experience to the desk top, that's what games should be.....always available, encouraging me to play/spend on micro transactions/improve/see more story line- whatever...
As always, Battlefield is never far from my disc tray although I've been playing some new games lately.
I've also been playing Tomb Raider for the PS4 Doctor9fan and I'm really impressed with it. I picked up a copy for pretty cheap from CEX and visually at least, I was blown away. The gameplay can get a little tiresome, but once you notch up the difficulty, the stealth side of things is really good fun.
I've also been following the production of SOE's H1Z1 and I really like the look of it. It's going to be a free to play so It'll be interesting to see how they roll it out.
PC wise over the weekend i been playing "Next Car Game" on stream Its brill and fun abit like DIRT showdown but is way better but what can i say for early beta also on that note, I just purchased the call of duty advanced warfare day zero edition
Android tablet wise been playing astrio 8 by gameloft, still cant beat the HD quality of the game but you do get the odd people crashing into on the side! but other then that is great for Google Play Games! Girlfriend still plays her Family Farm/HeyDay (oh god that tune lol)
I've moved on from Dark Souls and for a while was obsessed with Borderlands 2 So many brilliant pop culture references and a well fleshed out game world with vibrant characters and quite possibly the best villain I've seen in recent years.
I finally got around to playing Xcom on my 360 which everyone had been recommending to me for years. And with good reason! It's a bit dated on the graphics side but for me that actually added to it. A great tactical game where I could customise my entire squad is always a plus. If you can find it in a bargain bin give it a whirl.
Since completing Xcom I moved on to my other Bargain bin pick up: Dragon Age: Origins. I'll admit I picked this one up with trepidation having played Dragon Age 2 a few years ago and being bitterly disappointed. But with all the nagging I got ("Dragon Age 2 ruined the franchise!" etc) I had to see what the fuss is about. So far so good but the jury's still out for me. You get a dog on your team and for me that's always a huge plus
Let's get some discussion going and here's a controversial one! What did you all think of the ending of Mass Effect 3?!
P.S. don't forget I need some recommendations for what to play next!
I picked up Alien Isolation on the weekend for my PS4 and am loving it! The gameplay really draws you in with the atmosphere - the sound effects are spot on, probably one of the most immersive games I've played for a long time. The only big downside currently is the issue with frame rates in the cinematics. You can imagine, it doesn't leave a good impression when the moment you press play you wait for ages for it to load only to watch a very choppy cutscene - almost unbearable to witness. Hopefully they'll get that resolved soon, but I'd hold off buying it until it's fixed if I were you just so it doesn't spoil what is ultimately a good game otherwise.
I was looking at isolation and was in two minds about it. On the one hand, colonial marines has left a pretty sour taste in my mouth and I'm a bit weary of any Alien franchise games. On the other hand, it looks brilliant, an atmospheric, suspenseful game in a similar vein to Dead Space, which I hated/loved. Great game but every few minutes you could hear me shouting at the screen "stop with the creepy, *#@ing violins!"
I'll take your advice and wait for the patch just for the feels
