Re: Vivid 200 for gamers

From a 50Mb Superhub 2, to a 200Mb gamers Super hub 3 - DON'T!

DON'T UPGRADE! SERIOUSLY!

Used Thinkbroadband and Speedtest to monitor my ping etc. a few weeks before they sent my 'upgrade'. I also work for a large hosting company and are independently monitoring the quality of the service for our own personal analysis.

Speedtest on 50Mb SH2.0 I was getting SOLID 51Mb/3.5Mb and ping at around 10~12MS.

Got my SH 3.0 and moved to a 200/20Mb package.

Get 80Mb max/21Mb and a SHOCKING 24MS ping (some tests it went to 28MS).

So yeah, the upload is up, but download is barely increased (200Mb is a distant dream at the moment), and I've sacrificed all that for an absolutely APPALLING latency downgrade.

Don't do it guys. I'll be asking for a refund and will be backing out of this contract. They don't appear to be able to do anything about the latency.

If you only get 80Mb at all times of the day it sounds more like your hardware isn't gigabit capable (your network card and ethernet cable).

p.s. 24ms to a speedtest.net host isn't shocking. Here's a test on my 50Mb connection (27ms Glasgow to Newcastle) that looks fine:

The new beta speedtest.net seems to use different servers to the old one.

Re: Vivid 200 for gamers

Mud you may be partly correct but the increase in ping would not be caused by a older hardware in the PC

I never implied that. Read what I wrote.

It's a package of its own, not a +£5 on top of the stand Vivid 200 Optical. For example in my bill it lists as "VIVID 200 Optical Gaming", you shouldn't see the standard Vivid Optical after it. At least that's my experience of it. When I had the package activated for my account, the billing got messed up and I had to call in to have it corrected.

That's either an error or you have one hell of a loyalty discount you're going to lose by upgrading? Smiley Tongue

"p.s. 24ms to a speedtest.net host isn't shocking."

It is when 2 hours before you was getting 10/12MS on your SH2.0!

Its doubled.
