Picture quality drop

Over the last few days my V+ picture quality has droped on all channels. There is a lot of ghosting and a grainy look.

I have tried tweeking all channels on my new (1 yr old) Samsung 3D tv, but no improvement.

The HD channels aren't as sharp as they were.

I can't check any freeview channels, as I haven't a coax connected.

V+ box and TV are connectd via HDMI.

Any ideas, please help, considering SKY..............

Re: Picture quality drop

Hi Conmaster,  Glad I am not the only one to notice the reduction in picture quality.  Always seems worse in the evening.  Engineer ? called yesterday.  Not interested in seeing the effects simply changed My V+ box and gave me some poppy about how it is due to the way the content is delivered ie Real Time or Streamed.  He suggested that the poor quality was due to the streaming and the time lag etc etc and nothing could be done about it.  He may be right because this new box is just the same.  If this is the quality I can expect then I'm out of the door soon as I can arrange for SKY to be installed.  Merry Xmas.

Re: Picture quality drop

Hi Bidburyboy,
I agree, Virgin seems to be playing second fiddle to sky. Can't or won't fix the problm. I've watched cable T.V. in America for years, and the picture quality is perfect on all of the thousands of channels! I'm not even going to ring for an engineer (?) as I will probably end up with an even worse picture... To be honest, on the XL package there's very little to watch anyway!!!! I'm going to invest in a new digital Aerial for freeview, and keep downloading off the tinterweb, and save some money. I've just ordered a dongle for the T.V. from Amazon (£25)so I can stream direct from the web to it, and save a shed full of money each month. Let me know how you get on with Sky, and I might think about going back to them.

Re: Picture quality drop

TBH I think dropping TV from bundles is the future for myself... I've asked for small loyalty rewards but they're not going to do it, so I rang VM the other day and they said I can save 50% of my basic bundle (still costs £700 + each year) by dropping my TV M (lowest) pack. I already use freeview all the time because the picture is brighter and the text is so much faster.... I usually just plug in a usb stick with my web content to view on TV but the streaming dongle sounds great... and shouldn't cost the £350 I'll save by dropping the TV.

Off to BT on 13/02/2013 (MY Youview box has arrived plus hub and phone) Just till the network speed doubling and utilization is sorted. No loyalty rewards so it really pays to change providers at the end of every contract....I don't understand it. We have the equipment in place but the best deals involve an installation and new equipment... odd
