Why is it called Virgin TV Anywhere ?

The app still only works on WIFI or tethering yet is still advertised as Anywhere. Surely this is a trades description act issue as when you speak to a sales person they never mention it. WIFI is not very where and not everybody has 2 devices so they can tether. When is the app going to be able to be used on a data service. If Sky can do it why can't Virgin ? Why havent Sky got a copyright issue ? If a bank did this it would be front page news and claims companies would be calling me day and night.

''Why havent Sky got a copyright issue''

tv companies/film companies do deals with different providers at different times.the two device rule applies to sky and virgin. although the former you can add a further two devices but you have to pay extra every month.

this isn't one for trading standards.

follow the complaints procedure. if you are unhappy after that you can contact the ombudsman

edit - i knew i had seen it. but the fact that tv anywhere is wifi only is in the terms and conditions. the ombudsman will not be interested if that is the only complaint you have.

''Your ability to use Virgin TV Anywhere will be dependent on you having broadband or WiFi internet access (minimum 800 kbps recommended per device accessing Virgin TV Anywhere concurrently). You will be responsible for any charges incurred for the use of the broadband / WiFi internet access when using TV Anywhere. If your access to Virgin TV Anywhere is disrupted due to problems with your internet connection, we will not be responsible unless you have a separate right against us for the provision of internet connectivity.''

Re: Why is it called Virgin TV Anywhere ?

jamesofmerton - I do disagree with the T&C's but having spoken to staff at Virgin and reviewed various threads it is not something they make the customer clearly aware of. If you buying insurance product the seller needs to make you aware of the significant exclusions and limitations. The word "Anywhere" is misleading as the service will not work Anywhere and the consumer should be made aware by Virgin staff verbally that the app is WIFI restricted. I certainly was not. Why us it that Sky can cut a better deal than Virgin in terms if copyright ? After 3 years Virgin should be on par with Sky if they were really customer centric.

Re: Why is it called Virgin TV Anywhere ?

The need to be on WiFi is mentioned on the Shop page here:

http://www.virginmedia.com/shop/tv/set-top-boxes-and-apps.html

And with either box, you can watch up to 100 live TV channels or Box Sets on a compatible mobile or tablet, at home or on the go – and you can register two devices to watch on. All you need is a WiFi connection, anywhere in the UK.

In help here:

https://help.virginmedia.com/system/templates/selfservice/vm/help/customer/locale/en-GB/portal/20030...

Watch loads of channels of live TV, plus thousands of hours of video On Demand, when connected to broadband via Wi-Fi in the UK

and here:

https://help.virginmedia.com/system/templates/selfservice/vm/help/customer/locale/en-GB/portal/20030...

To stream live TV or watch On Demand content you must have:

  • A Wi-Fi connection within the UK
  • A registered device
  • A TV package including the channel/On Demand content you are trying to stream

It's also mentioned on the Play Store listing:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.virginmedia.tvanywhere&hl=en_GB

Meet Virgin TV Anywhere. This clever app lets you watch different things side by side, on a compatible device. Or in another room. Or even take the telly you love on the go. Wherever you have WiFi.

And on the App Store listing:

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/virgin-tv-anywhere/id477143650?mt=8

Meet Virgin TV Anywhere. This clever app lets you watch different things side by side, on a compatible device. Or in another room. Or even take the telly you love on the go. Wherever you have WiFi.

Re: Why is it called Virgin TV Anywhere ?

I haveen and know where it us posted but whybdo Virign staff never mention this as a duty if care to a customer.

Still doesn't answer the question of why it is called 'Anywhere' when it us not. For instance you can't watch the app on the train to and from work as they do not have WIFI.

Why is it called 'Anywhere' and why can"t Virgin match Sky in the copyright stakes ?
