Parental lock removed from YouTube app!

Hello all,

Dont know if you are aware yet, but the YouTube app on the TiVo box provided has had the parental lock removed in the latest update. I have two kids and the older one is very curious to look up inappropriate things after hearing about them at school. We have signed up to websafe but since VirginMedia have removed the parental lock on the youTube App (not the channel) the have exposed kids to all the inappropriate content that exists on youTube. This is incredibly irresponsible and I have raised an official complaint with VirginMedia, whose current response is to say its not their problem.

I would urge all parents to contact virgin media to demand this parental lock be put back on, I have already found highly inappropriate material on my TiVo box which wasnt previously accessible to my kids.

If you didnt realise this, dont worry you are not the first, as I spoke to several Virgin media customer service reps and none of them knew this happened, and have no answer for it except to say its YouTube's problem, not theirs.

I find it shocking that a media company like Virgin Media, who claim to have our kids protection at the core of their service, can be so wreck less and dismissive of parents concerns.

Re: Parental lock removed from YouTube app!

There are parental controls available in the YouTube app itself via the Restricted Mode.

You can find out all about Parental Control on YouTube here https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2802272?hl=en-GB

Specific information about Restricted Mode is here https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/174084

Re: Parental lock removed from YouTube app!

Resctricted mode is pretty useless, I found loads of porn and inappropriate content in restricted mode, and its not very difficult to go in an turn it off!

Re: Parental lock removed from YouTube app!

Any use?

Controlling access to Apps and Games

Due to the explicit nature of some content on hayu, Curzon and Cinema Trailers, you can block, lock or unlock access to each app.

  1. Press Home on your TiVo remote.
  2. Select Help & Settings .
  3. Choose Parental Controls, then tap in your PIN.
  4. Select Lock Apps & Games.

You’ll see the Apps in a list, and you can mark them as Blocked, Locked or Unlocked:
Blocked - no one can access the app and it will not be shown on your TiVo box
Locked - you’ll have to enter your Virgin Media PIN before the accessing this app
Unlocked - anyone can access this app.

Re: Parental lock removed from YouTube app!

Hi, those instructions do not work for Netflix or YouTube app, because they have removed the parental lock option for Netflix and YouTube. This is a recent change

Re: Parental lock removed from YouTube app!

My Netflix screen 1 always asks who's watching  ( i.e. choose a profile )  when I start it.

That is on all my devices. I don't use tivo netflix but this was implemented ages ago. and it's on smart TV, tablets, roky, Fire sticks... so I@d be amazed if tivo does NOT have it

you can then set up different profiles with different control e.. netflix KIDS. for kids shows only,

the flaw is you can't block the KIDS from using your adult profile and not theirs but it is at least a start.

You tube is a cesspit - if I had young kids I would not let them near it, but on PC ( chrome) you can use plug ins to hide all the comments ( which are mostly obscene )

Are these parental controls available within the YouTube app provided within the VM Tivo?
