Can I request a copy of my childs browsing history via virgin?

Suspecting my 15 year old has been looking at dodgy sites. This was before I knew how to turn the parental control on.

Does anyone know if I can somehow see his browsing history other than checking his phone ie, request a copy from virgin customer services - if there is such a thing?

Thanks

Re: Can I request a copy of my childs browsing history via virgin?

Hi noodles112uk,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community Smiley Happy

The only way I know of to retrieve browsing history would be via the device it's self. Have you got Web Safe turned on at the moment? This will restrict all inappropriate browsing. Have a look at this article for more information, I find this really helpful for limiting the content of browsing on my connection.

Hope this helps,

Take care.

If you can gain access to the device he uses then you should be able to see history from the address bar at top.

To be honest if he is tech savy enough he may have already deleted.

Another thing of note is he may have download the videos from said sites so check downloads folder.

Last thing assuming we are talking about Blue movies he is probably just curious as i was sex ed in school teaches nothing and leaves alot of questions un answered !!!!

I would be more surprised if a 15 year old was not inquisitive enough to want to visit dodgy (porn) sites.

Have you tried talking to him about your views on such sites? That may be a better solution than going behind his back and breaking your trust with him. Of course that be stop him looking at dodgy sites from his own phone but not that of his mates.

Now thats a sensible reply. To my mind its more important you educate your child that such sites show ONE aspect of normal human relationships. And that your views on it are X,Y or Z. And that whatever your views are your childs may be different. But that while they are under your roof and you pay the bills you reserve the right to enforce your standards.

That applies to pron, file sharing, hacking, piracy, grooming, and people lying about who they are.And everything else the internet will throw up. Just to expand the debate beyond one particular sort of content.

Re: Can I request a copy of my childs browsing history via virgin?

If you have a Google account, it is possible.

Click on: Google Account History

Now select Your searches and browsing activity and you can go back through the history.

This is only possible if your child has a Google account, and has signed into the account. If they are using Google Chrome browser and have initiated the Incognito mode, then I'm afraid you'll be out of luck.

Your child won't know that you're checking up on them, unless you click on a link in the past history (which shows up as the latest search). You should be able to judge many websites and searches by the wording.

In short, not direct from VM, but yes if you have BD (or Kas) Parental Control installed and you have a restricted profile in operation on the machine he is using (if it is windows of course).

Re: Can I request a copy of my childs browsing history via virgin?

Try this? search for "family safety" on microsoft site (requires a live login or a hotmail address)

Works on Windows endpoints only, is free and e-mails me a link to browsing (sites mainly) and lets me just monitor - the blocking mode is a pain and intrusive.

Does require that you are an admin on all computers that they use.
