i have the 200mbps broadband which is great, but to be honest the 10mbps is proper dog poop!
can i not get better upload speeds? problem being i need more uploads because i am transferring lots of ftp files for music production, and when i am watching tv, which is all on the net (netflix and now tv) i have major problems playing battlefield 4, and one online as my upload is struggling with all the tv streams!
plus i have a plex server which my family use to watch videos of our daughter and other stuff.. i need more upload!?!
are they increasing this? or can i get more than 10mbps?
Not at the moment, and I believe there are technical issues that mean increasing it much beyond that is tricky although I think the official upload speed for 200 is 12.
the tv streams shouldn't effect anything as they are downstream.
the problem is if you max out the upstream connection this messes up downstream handshaking etc.
about all you can do is setup some sort of bandwidth management/qos so that ftp is limited to say 8 upstream, (and maybe prioritise other services over that). the remaining should be enough for battlefield 4
I'm not sure how capable the virgin hub is at that as I use my own router in modem mode.
that aside I agree with the way the cloud is becoming more important internet upstream and downstream need to be more balanced.
hmm didn't know about vivid 200 gamer having 20 up... looks interesting...
It might also be worth looking at Virgins Homeworker which offers 300 down and 20 up..
i have a super 2ac, and i cant find any settings for QOS or prioritising any IP numbers, i needed to prioritise our baby cam on the network but cant, and i have issues with it occasionally dropping connection.
i suppose the only answer is buy a router and put vm into modem mode, but what router?
