poor speeds- contention now after 18 months grace?

Area 22, ls10 here, over the last week ived noticed the speeds are very sporadic,nearly always got full speed since i started with virgin nearly 2 years ago but this last week its up and down all the time, should be on 200mb but been topping out about 100-150

however tonight its barely even touching 5mb, im on a wired connection so no way should it be so low

Interestingly enough ive tested on ookla and shows no drop, yet on three other speedtests it all shows about 5mb, even downloading a game on steam didnt go over 7mb

Are virgin paying ookla to fudge the tests lol?

My partner has had a major problem with contention over the last two years and im worried that its now starting here, if so i will be running for the hills but just wondering if anyone else having any problems in this area at the moment

it might be that or it might be a few other things - start with

log into superhub - 192.168.0.1 - DON'T SIGN IN, click router status - and post the downstream and upstream figures

they look ok you can post the network log if you want - not something i understand but sure others will comment - if the tests are just on one pc run a speedtest in modem mode just to make sure its not software - if its across a few wired pc then its unlikely to be that

after that wait for VM to comment - takes them a week or so to get to threads

yeah had the fun of them before when i was sorting out a friends  connection, hence why was getting worried when speeds started slowing as thats what happened to hers, tested on my mobile and a laptop via wireless and again for whatever reason ookla tests reasonbly well but all others test slower

network log is here i restarted router earlier to see if improves, at mo its better byt not full speed

Interesting, wonder if this is the reason behind my sporadic speeds, anyone else been affected?

thats good to see but does it relate to the problem i have been having?
thats what i was asking, as it only seems to affect certain sites could explain why speedtest to ookla was fine yet think broadband wasnt amongst others

Apologies for your intermittent speed issues. I'll do what I can to help though would like some additional information from you if that's OK?

  • How often is your speed dropping?
  • At what time(s) of day?
  • Does this affect devices connected via Ethernet?
  • What sites are affected?
  • Please provide some speed test results - speedtest.net using the default servers - from devices connected via Ethernet.

I'll then see how we can best help Smiley Happy
