dreaded Speed question

Area 28, Big Kahuna pkg. Been averaging 10-14mb WIFI download speed for many months now. Is this acceptable, or should I get on the phone to Virgin and look for a fix?

Re: dreaded Speed question

A max of about 22mb, but as it's an older imac, i figured that might be the problem.

Re: dreaded Speed question

Hi dagwells,

Just though I'd add that diagnostics on your hub and network segment throw up a clean bill of health, so good speeds should be very achievable.....are you able to test your connection on any other PC or gigabit capable device?

Thanks

Re: dreaded Speed question

Good look with the speeds,do you get the poor speeds of an evening if so good luck to you they will say it's due to high utilisation and give you a review date,I'd leave now if you have the chance I've had poor speeds of 4mb in the evenings but paying for 100mb,I've had this since April last year,so I had enough and phoned cancellations but they said they will get a broadband tech guy to call me on the 18th of January who won't read from a script and will tell me it as it is,if there is no resolve I'm going to bt.

Re: dreaded Speed question

I recently noticed a Virgin engineer at the main street box, so re-tested the older Mac - it showed 80mb download / 9mb upload, so I was satisfied with that. Hand held devices (iPhone 6 / iPad) still showed approx 14mb download, even right beside the router so the issue must be with the Virgin modem?

Re: dreaded Speed question

The issue will be to do with your wireless environment. As everyone's is different no ISP guarantees wireless speeds.

You've had a reply from VM saying nothing is wrong on the hub or network segment so that is pointing at wireless being the problem with your other devices.

Re: dreaded Speed question

Just depends on the locality. I've never had any peak time issues and I doubt I will (I live amongst retirement homes)
