consistently terrible peak speeds in area 21?

Most evenings for the past few weeks the connection has felt sluggish, and speeds reported well <20Mbps, or even <10. Tonight is no exception, even with a direct ethernet connection to the router.

Why am I even on VIVID 100? Can I downgrade and save money if I'm not going to see >50Mbps in the evening?

Re: consistently terrible peak speeds in area 21?

Hey daw,

Thanks for posting and a big welcome to the community Smiley Very Happy

Sorry to hear about the slow speeds you're getting at the minute, I know it's disappointing.

I've checked your connection and I can see that we're currently working on a fault in your area under ref: F003564970 which is due for review on the 21st Dec. While this fault is on-going you might experience slow speeds during peak time hours.

Please accept my apologies for this and let me know if you have any questions.

Take care.

Re: consistently terrible peak speeds in area 21?

Thanks for getting back to me, Heather. Did this get addressed? I still regularly see bandwidth as low as 10 Mbps at the time of evening when I most need it (e.g. http://beta.speedtest.net/result/5955861258) and a quick Google for the reference number you provided shows it being quoted over a year ago with similar issues (https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Speed/Slow-broadband-in-Herne-Hill/td-p/2991675).

Hey daw,

It does seem that work is ongoing in the area, F003564970 has a new review date of 29th March 2017 as our engineers continue to put everything in place to allow them to go in and complete the necessary upgrades.

Re: consistently terrible peak speeds in area 21?

Cheers Kev.

Since it seems unlikely I'll be seeing speeds of >50Mbps any time soon, and I've been wasting money on VIVID 100 since August, is it possible to downgrade my package without incurring charges, or claim a refund for the additional cost?
