Variable Wi-Fi Speeds with SuperHub3

I have had a SH3 for three weeks now after the wi-fi failed on a SH2. VM have been back to adjust the downstream power levels. However, wi-fi speeds are variable.

This from my iPad, download varies from 1.26 (at 4.29 am) to 117.14 (22.08) last night, back down to 1.98 earlier this morning. This is from my bedroom with the SH3 about 15m away on the same floor (with the doors open!). It must be close enough to be receiving the 5GHz signal. The 216 at 7.42 was with the iPad 1m from the router. GSM speeds are 4G.

Why is this?

Is the way forward to switch to modem mode and a third party router?

Are you able to test if wired speeds drop at the times the wireless ones do too?

Good point. Yes, I can do that but not for a few days.
