VIVID 300 but speed test indicates I'm getting 3Mbs

New install today.

Superhub has been put into modem mode - and am using the wired interface via a Sophos hardare firewall (was previously getting 20-50 Mbps on exact same network configuration with BT).

Not sure what to expect - but didn't expect that.

Have been running multiple speed tests via http://beta.speedtest.net/results

richard.

Re: VIVID 300 but speed test indicates I'm getting 3Mbs

I would test without the firewall to rule that out, also post modem reading from 192.168.1.1, or in modem mode 192.168.100.1, Downstream, Upstream and Network log, don't forget you have 14 days cooling period, if you in a congested area it might be worth thinking about (read the rest of the Speed forum) as it can take over 3 years for VM to put their hands in their pocket to sort it out.

It could be a faulty connection, with any luck.

First try the Virgin Hub in Modem mode connected directly to the PC via Gigabit Lan.

Re: VIVID 300 but speed test indicates I'm getting 3Mbs

More details - from last night.

We lost the phone connection - so my wife called Virgin (go wives :-) - apparently we had a broadband specialist handle the phone call and we walked through some troubleshooting.

I connected a PC direct to the hub (no firewall) - and it was still very slow - the VM support tech claimed that he couldn't see the device attached to the hub (or rather the "voltages were low" - no I have never heard that before either )

I switched back to the router mode and retested with both a WIFI connection and the Wired connection - the WIFI gave a good 200+Mbs, but the wired was still ~3MBs.

These are multiple new cat6 cables so its not likely to be that.

Are all four ports the same ?

Currently this is on hold - the phone line means we might have a faulty external connection, and I'm away on business

We are currently 0 for 3 (in American speak)

  • No phone
  • No (usable) broadband
  • No TV (the Tivo couldn't get an IP address over the coax - VM is blaming my coax amplifier that was installed to put TV socket in every room).

Re: VIVID 300 but speed test indicates I'm getting 3Mbs

All working now - 311Mbps download / 17Mbps upload

We had a bad installation - the phone was incompletely disconnected from BT and the broadband had a lose connection in the street.

Wife is very happy with the performance of iPlayer :-)

So is there now a Vivid 300 instead of Homeworks?

no it's not called vivid300, it called homeworks+300, homeworks is just the add on part.
