Twitch, OBS, Dropping frames..

For some reason I'm dropping a LOT of frames, I'm streaming at 2300 Bit rate. Everything is working fine, and then around an hour everything goes balls up. It's pretty annoying that I'm paying a lot of money for my upload to be capped(?).

Somebody on Reddit said my upload threshold is being capped meaning I'll drop frames after a few hours. Is this true, or is there something wrong with my broadband?

Re: Twitch, OBS, Dropping frames..

What package are you on?

After an hour sounds like you are hitting the upload traffic management thresholds.

100/5

Well, if that's case then...

Re: Twitch, OBS, Dropping frames..

I don't have the upload threshhold page to hand (at work myself) but it goes up with each package.

200/12 has a better allowance (still not great)

Or you can go for the gamer bundle (which should be called a streamer bundle anyway) which is 200 down 20 up with no traffic management.

Re: Twitch, OBS, Dropping frames..

Hi Sads,

Sorry about this. Virgin Media removed their downstream traffic management a long time ago. But upload traffic is monitored at peak times and a speed reduction can result from not observing the trigger times.

Please read our upstream traffic management policy.

The criteria can be read in detail here, just make sure you click on the More Details drop down in the centre of that page.

Once you know how the system works you can manage your upload times so that TM isn't triggered.
I hope this helps but do please let us know if you have any other issues or queries.

Take care,

Jen
