I'm in the Wigan area and moved to BT infinity 1 when Virgin sold its ADSL customers off to Talk Talk. It was up to 38mb then, got 37mb 24/7 until yesterday. The package has been upgraded to up to 52mb, I now get this:
Its just the way DOCSIS works, Its a shared platform. More users on the CMTS worse it gets unfortunately Think about it it could happen to any ISPs it just depends on what capacity it has at the local exchange
The thing is I accept some contention will always happen. I know peak time issues happen, it is just when people get between 2-6mb on a 200mb connection then its not just a bit of contention its an unsuable service. If I didnt get 200 all the time and sometimes dropped to 70-80mb I would content enough. Now they are taking the mickey.
I am in a Virgin Over Utilised Area - F003476231 - Never Ending Fault.
I've had Sky since April after leaving VM and it's awesome paying 30-40 quid a month less for more services at the mo and that's the full 12 months so even when it's up I'll ask for another deal, believe me you won't regret it, broadband was tested on installation day (wired) got 40mb but we are a wifi house so getting 29-31mb and 9-10 upload wireless but it's consistent so thumbs up to that, TV lost signal once but that was mega rain the other day and it went for 3 minutes then straight back, the picture looks better and the catch up/on demand is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better, click, download, watch as the meerkat says "simples" no more waiting 5 minutes for iplayer to load, thousands of films to choose from and it's not even Sky Q it's only HD+, VM will hopefully lose a lot of customers because the way we were treated they deserve it
I lasted 13 days with VM Big Kahuna. Joined from Sky and left for BT. Getting a solid 70mbps now even in the evening In a years time I'll re-review as there are always deals for new users, but for now I'm very happy. That said Virgin have an immense task to even tempt me back. Being plain lied to about available speeds does not sit well with me. Good luck to you all and hope you manage to bail soon.
The main reason people dont leave is the " You are still under contract " issue. However VM have broken the contract by mis-selling a service they cannot provide, so dont be bullied by them. If needed there is always the small claims court where you can state your case, and get your money back. Good luck everyone.
