Terrible single-threaded download performance at all times of day

For many weeks (possibly months) I have been seeing terrible performance on single-threaded downloads (e.g TBB speed test) whereas multi-threaded downloads (e.g. speedtest.net) nearly always perform flawlessly.

This has been discussed ad nauseum in the following thread:

Please could I get a ticket logged for my particular problem?

As I work from home and cannot afford to be without internet I also have a BT ADSL connection. This connection works flawlessly with single threaded downloads using all available bandwidth at all times.

Here's the result of a TBB speed test performed on the VirginMedia connection just now:

And here is a similar test performed on the BT connection:

For the BT connection to be faster than the VirginMedia 200Mbps connection for single threaded downloads is simply unacceptable.

I have been a BlueYonder/Telewest/VirginMedia customer for 15 years, always on the highest available tier, and have never experienced such incredibly bad service as this.

Come on VirginMedia, please sort it out!

however, after almost 12 months of trying, we have been unable to get Virgin Media to do anything about it. The networks team can't find any problem despite the ever growing number of people reporting it.

Will also post there. Is it also worth individually calling Virgin support about this and do the support teams understand the problem? I could imagine just being told that particular websites are slow and having a hard time convincing them of a problem!

If it's like me, they'll run you through the motions and then say their people are looking at the issue. And then no word from anyone.

Terminating the contract seems to be a more viable choice every day that passes.

On chat support at the moment and they definitely don't know how to help, just keep being asked to use speedtest.net. I'm surprised this isn't in their knowledgebase considering the number of threads/posts discussing it

speedtest.net creates loads of connections and often depicts better results because of it.

VM not suggesting/using thinkbroadband is not a coincidence Smiley Wink

Yes, speedtest.net masks this problem very well as it uses so many threads.

 It's no surprise Virgin recommend it so highly.

It seems most VM support staff, including those on this forum, are completely unaware of the problem (apart from Jen_A who has done her best to get the network department to look into it)
