Sudden drop in Broadband Speed - Area 21 - SE9

I have just today got my new connection setup with 200 mbps broadband. When it was connected at 11 in the morning, the speedtest showed 170Mbps and now from 9 PM onwards it is under 10 Mbps. This looks like oversubscription fault and I will call VM in the morning to log a complaint. Anyone has any ideas as to whats going on in this area?

Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Sudden drop in Broadband Speed - Area 21 - SE9

Try running speed tests at thinkbroadband & speedtest.net Make sure you run them over a wired connection using a gigabit ethernet port and cat 6 network cable.

Also run tests before 9am after 12 but before 4pm and between 7pm - 9pm this will rule out over utilisation or show other issues.

Please also post the upstream - downstream stats and network logs from the superhub, you can do this easily by visiting the hubs page at http://192.168.0.1 if you only use the superhub or http://192.168.100.1 if you use modem mode and separate router.

Do not log in to the superhub just click the link at top right superhub 2 or bottom middle superhub 3.

Re: Sudden drop in Broadband Speed - Area 21 - SE9

Hello RohsVerms,

Welcome to the community. It's nice to have you here.

I'm sorry to read you are experiencing slow broadband speeds. I know how frustrating this can be.

I can see there is a high peak time traffic fault in your area (F003918351) which is causing slow speeds. However, there has been work completed that has seen you move onto a different cable. Have you noticed an improvement at all?

Kind regards

Sam

Re: Sudden drop in Broadband Speed - Area 21 - SE9

Hello Samantha,

I have seen improvement during off peak hours. During peak hours it has improved from 5-7 Mbps to now about 15 Mbps or so but will need to do few more peak time checks to convince myself of the improvement. However to be honest a speed of 15 to 20 Mbps over a 200 Mbps line is still not satisfactory even during peak hours. Lets hope this improves further in my tests

Re: Sudden drop in Broadband Speed - Area 21 - SE9

I'm in area 20 and it literally goes off at peak times, the times when I need it most for studies. I'm wishing I had stayed with sky tbh. I didn't have this issue then

Re: Sudden drop in Broadband Speed - Area 21 - SE9

hi there,

we have been experiencing similar in se7 since November, despite guarantees of work taking place in March. Literally about to cancel and find a new supplier.

It appears the south london SE postcodes are dramatically affected due to over subscription in the areas.

help?

Re: Sudden drop in Broadband Speed - Area 21 - SE9

Not in the se9 area but in the nw10. I'm getting slow speeds myself. This morning I've tried on my iPad and was getting 3mbps. Uploads were even slower.
