Slow speeds nightly, >100ms ping, London

Slow speeds, high ping.

Have tried 3rd party router with virgin box in modem mode.

Can sometimes sort the issues using QoS on my router, limiting the bandwidth to ~4mb/s, which is fairly appalling for an alleged ~100mb/s line.

About one night a week we will get a consistent high ping and slow speed, which I would guess is traffic management. 120ms ping with 10% dropped packets is simply not acceptable (example thinkbroadband graph below).

This is with essentially no usage.

Even on a 'good' day any kind of usage in the house sends it over the edge into 250ms-500ms ping territory. e.g. below
