Hello

Just wondering if someone with a better idea of the above  router stats can see if there is a reason other than over utilisation of my area, why my connection speed is so slow in the evenings. I'm on the 152mb package, so while i accept, it should slow down a bit a night, not this much, sometimes down to 3mb ,seems to be bit of a joke paying all that money for such a drop in speeds at night, especially with the recent price rises. I have supposed to be having a free speed upgrade since last year which i can have straight away if i fork out the money, so it is/has been available some time.I've done all the usual stuff and the above were taken in modem mode and wired connection with everything else disconnected.

If anyone can help , that would be great otherwise it means the dreaded phone call to customer services. If you need help to see what is happening in my area, please let me  know,

cheers in advance

Re: Slow speeds in the evenings

Lucky you can move. I just called BT to go back to Fibre from them and the cabinet is at capacity so I can't change to any other fibre provider. Just timed nicely with a £3.50 increase. Might be worth checking with another fibre provider before you cancel. looks like the BT network is at capacity as well in a lot of areas

Re: Slow speeds in the evenings

Hey butler1867,

Thanks for posting Smiley Very Happy

Sorry to read that you're getting speed reductions in the evenings, this can be really frustrating.

I appreciate you posting your stats, it's very helpful. Your power and SNR levels are within range at the moment, but there is a fault in your area under ref: F004771344 which is due for review on the 16th Nov. As you know, this fault can cause speed reductions during peak time hours.

I know this isn't the news you were hoping for, please accept my apologies and let me know if you have any further questions.

Take care.

Re: Slow speeds in the evenings

Thank you for replying,

Now i have a fault number, i will give CS a ring and get a credit applied to my account, luckily i am out of contract, so i can move if i dont get a satisfactory answer from them. It may be that i go to a fibre provider and come back to Virgin in a years time when hopefully it is fixed but the danger is the service is better and i dont come back . Thats the dangerous game Virgin are playing,

Cheers again

Re: Slow speeds in the evenings

We've had this problem for four and a half MONTHS! Now the tv service has joined in and chucks it in the early evening.  Last weekend it was off from 4pm till 7pm on the Friday and then from 9-1.30am.  When we managed eventually to get CS we were given an estimated time for internet and tv coming back and it was 11am on the Saturday morning.  This is not what we pay for and its impossible to get anyone to agree to give us a refund for the services we don't receive.  It doesn't help that when you do eventually get someone in customer services they have english as their second language and struggle with a Scottish accent.  The only time we get contact from them is when we tweet several times and there is never a satisfactory solution to this problem.  Any suggestions anyone?

Re: Slow speeds in the evenings

Hi , don't know if it helps , but just rang CS and got through to a welsh call centre rather than Indian , much easier to speak to and agreed a £10 credit per month for the next two months until the next review date . I suppose I can then ring again for further credit or leave to another provider before or after. No hassle in getting the credit either.

Re: Slow speeds in the evenings

You are not alone on the evening slow downs. I'm in area 15 (North London) and have got 200 down / 20 up service with the gaming add on. Performance is best late evenings through to midday on business days, with headline download speeds generally eroding to a trough around 8 pm. My 'slows' are down to around 20 Mbps down with the up mainly stable at around 15 - 20 Mbps.  I suspect this slow down is the result of system-wide capacity limitations and peaking of download-intensive activities such as HD movie viewing (e.g. Netflix). Aside from adding transmission capacity to reduce contention ratios, VM could probably also manage traffic in a different way including a charging mechanism to take account of the time of day. I imagine there are efforts underway to address but they are not transparent to end users such as ourselves. Perhaps VM moderators would want to add a better explanation, but I do agree that VM should provide a better explanation and some alternatives.

Re: Slow speeds in the evenings

Hello , as today was supposed to be the review date, can you give me an update if the issue is now fixed or a new review date has been set and if so when. Just so i can ring cs and get a further discount on my package until the issue is finally sorted.

Thank you
