Over Utilisation, URMSTON, M41 - area 20

Been suffering terrible download speeds at peak times now since late last year on the 100mb broadband package...speed seems ok outside of peak times but come the evening speeds drop to a ridiculously low 3-4mb and is barely usable.

E.g.

evening

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6020057660

daytime

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6021562922

Searching these very forums (and the reason for posting) brings up recent posts from others in exactly the same boat in the M41 Urmston area, e.g.

http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Speed/Urmston-area-20-is-shocking/m-p/3316347

Friends in the area are also having speed issues with VM broadband.

I was originally told at xmas time a fix was due at the end of January…well Januarys been and gone and nothing’s changed and getting the above across to your call centre team is getting tiresome to say the least...lost count the numbers of times the router has been reset, various cables unplugged and the wireless channel changed on the advice of the call centre operator (fyi - the PC is hard wired to the router!).

To me it is clearly pointing to an over utilisation issue in the area so please can you confirm when...or indeed if a fix is in the pipeline to your Urmston network so I can make alternative arrangements elsewhere if necessary.

Thanks

F004193000 was supposed to be fixed June of LAST year... then January... and now MAY? What is the point in giving these dates when there is no end in sight?

don't expect a reply mate! I made a thread 3 weeks ago that no one's taken a look at... https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Speed/Here-I-am-again-Packet-loss-every-evening-for-the-past-2-...

You can see my daily logs the packet loss starts in evenings and doesn't stop until 10/11pm on a daily basis - this is why our speeds are so slow.

Had the same problem since July last year - VM refunded me £3 for the inconvenience. Absolute joke. I pay for 200mbit and I get 15 in the evenings, I'm in M41 area also. Your best bet is to send them an official complaint in the post and demand they re-imburse you for a years worth of over pay you've been giving them for the extra speed you never got. The only reason I stay with them is because BT only offer 30mbit around here

Hi there Deejay20vt,

Welcome to the community and thanks for posting.

Sorry to read you are having issues with your broadband speeds during peak hours.

I would like to look into this further for you, however I was unable to locate your account. I've sent you a PM (purple envelope icon, right corner) with some details for you to confirm please.

Hope to hear from you soon

Sam

Sam, replied to your message and just a quick note that speed has slightly improved in the evenings of late...but still way short of what is expected (and was use too).

Re: Over Utilisation, URMSTON, M41 - area 20

Evening Deejay20vt,

Thanks for the quick reply and confirming your details, I appreciate it.

I've checked your connection and there is a high peak time traffic fault in your area which is causing slow speeds. The reference number is F004193000 and has a review date of 24th May.

I also noticed that the downstream power levels are too low at -7 dBmV and have sent you another PM with details in regards to arranging an engineer appointment to get these adjusted.

Speak soon

Sam

Re: Over Utilisation, URMSTON, M41 - area 20

well as I expected the VM engineer came and went on wednesday and couldn't do much other than remove a filter and left me with a ref code to obtain a rolling discount till the next review date in May. Speeds have not changed...still getting a terrible 3 to 5 mb in peak times.

suppose the big question now is do i accept this in some vain hope that in the next 3 months that VM will actually get their act together and sort the outdated 25 year old Nynex network in my local area? or is it time to leave?

not impressed.

Re: Over Utilisation, URMSTON, M41 - area 20

Hi

Have the same problem in Urmston when will ever be fixed this is over 2 Year now and still slow in URMSTON AREA 20

Also had the same from VM see below

Hi eric777m,

Thanks for posting Smiley Happy

Apologies for the slow speeds, thanks for providing speed test results. I've just looked from our end and I can see that we're working on a fault in your area under ref: F004193000 which is currently due for review on the 24th May. While this is on-going you might notice that your speeds are reduced, especially during peak time hours (evenings and weekends).

I know this isn't the best news, please accept my apologies and let me know if there's anything else we can help with.

Take care.

Heather_J

Re: Over Utilisation, URMSTON, M41 - area 20

[ Edited ]

Account ***********. I am having the same problem.  Upgraded to 200Mb bginning of Feb 2017.  Not seen anything close to that even when hardwired to the router. Seem 100Mb/s once or twice at about 2am weekdays (work shifts).  Tried a test earlier hen i appreciate that the area is being heavily utilized, but got 13Mb/s!!   Am really disappointed by the apparent downgrade after my upgrade.  Have reported it once before on the phone and it seemed to get better, but now it is awful.  Had engineer round last week for a telephone problem, which he sorted and spoke about the awful internet speeds and he confirmed about the May 2017 planned fix.  I know that it saya that the speeds are upto 200Mb, but thats the same as Audi saying thea the emissions on their cars were a certain level, only in perfect controlled conditions.  Real world is another situation altogether. I feel short changed in paying for a service speed  that Virgin Media has made it impossible to achieve.

Hope that this will get fixed, but still a long wait that no-one should be suffering (and I've not been suffering to the same extent as others here).

Andrew
