New customer vivid 200g slow speeds @ peak times

Hey all,

Brand new customer to virgin and have chosen the vivid 200 gamer package.
However after a few days of testing speeds, any time between 5pm to 11pm I can get anywhere on average around 55mbs down.
The speeds in general NEVER, give the same results from one test to another.
One test will give 150mb and the next straight after that will give 70mbs. Very sporadic.
Outside of these times I can expect around he 200 down 20 up mark which I gladly pay for.

The connection is Ethernet and as a networking IT engineer I know my way around everything Smiley Happy
I ca also confirm that no other device is on the network at the times tested.

Can someone assist with checking the local line contention/load and if anything can be done?

I am more than willing to pay £40 a month for 200mb gamer package or around there but not 50mb regardless of load.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
George

Also just to note, from my understanding the 200 gamer package should not have any form of traffic shaping or limits in place..

If your speed is only dropping at peak times, it'll be contention mate.

If so, upgrades needed !!
I work with a lot of networks that require bandwidth management, the results I get are a sign of too much of the bandwidth been given away.
We implement management to companies that gives them what they pay for and unless the line is over subscribed will always supply this given speed.

I know virgin is very popular in my local area so both demand and the money to keep the kit up to scratch is there Smiley Happy

The only problem is, VM don't want to spend the money. If you've got contention, run for it while you're still in your Cooling Off Period, as VM will be in no hurry to fix it. I've had it for over two years, and still no sign of a fix. This forum is riddled with people in the same boat as me.

While you are waiting for a reply from the VM Staff (About 7-14 days from your last post.), type the start of your postcode into the search bar at the top of this page. You may get some info' about your area.

Oh, and watch out for the "There is some peak time build up in your area, but it's not breaching our thresholds." reply. Nobody but VM knows what their thresholds are, but to breach them, your connection will have to be dire. Smiley Wink

Stupid policy why wait for it to get bad? plan early and implement when needed instead of leaving it.
