New User. 200Mb package slows to 20Mb at peak times.

Hi all,

I switched to the Virgin 200Mb package with V6 box, V3 hub and TV with Sport on Monday. During the day my connection blazes along as 221Mbps (as seen below):

6093450181

My issues start around 6pm. Every single night my connection slows to 20Mb-30Mb. It isn't just speed tests, it's Steam, Newsgroups and even the Netflix tester. I haven't even been downloading all that much, so I don't see why I would have been throttled.

Tonight:

6094517104

Last night:

6088662426

I'm using a wired gigabit connection. I have no other active devices in the house apart from a v6 Tivo box on standby and an Android phone on wireless. I have checked the stats, and they look absolutely fine. The power levels are within tolerance (0.1-2.5dBmV). Here are my stats:

Downstream bonded channels
Channel Frequency(Hz) Power
(dBmV) SNR
(dB) Modulation Channel ID
1 435000000 2.5 38.6 256 qam 4
2 531000000 0.4 37.6 256 qam 16
3 523000000 0.9 37.6 256 qam 15
4 515000000 0.9 38.6 256 qam 14
5 507000000 1.5 38.9 256 qam 13
6 499000000 1.2 38.9 256 qam 12
7 491000000 1 38.6 256 qam 11
8 483000000 0.7 38.6 256 qam 10
9 475000000 0.9 38.6 256 qam 9
10 467000000 1.5 38.6 256 qam 8
11 459000000 1.7 38.6 256 qam 7
12 451000000 2.2 38.6 256 qam 6
13 443000000 2 38.6 256 qam 5
14 427000000 2.7 38.9 256 qam 3
15 419000000 3.4 38.9 256 qam 2
16 411000000 3.5 38.9 256 qam 1

Could one of the mods check whether there's a congestion issue in Area 31 Barton Seagrave? I'm more than a little gutted, as after a year with BT, I was really looking forward to getting back on VM. But there's clearly something wrong. I've only been on Virgin for 3 days and I'm already having issues. I really don't want to have to use the cooling off period to switch to someone else, as I adore the v6 Tivo box. Any help or tips you guys could provide would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Welcome to the high utilisation club, a member of the forum team will apologise in 7 days or so and supply you with a fault code you cannot look up and a review date that means nothing as its not a repair date.

In the meantime feel free to troll the forums on your superfast broadband as its about the only page that loads in peek time and call India on 150 with the fault code the forum team provide to get a MASSIVE £3 diminished service refund for the month.

If you are not willing to put up with the lies and quite possibly YEARS of rubbish internet there are other providers available (once you start having issues you forever will!!!)

Re: New User. 200Mb package slows to 20Mb at peak times.

Disappointing if true. I just found another post from last month from a guy in my area with the same postcode. He has the same issues as me. The forum mod said the following "I can see an issue with the network in your area affecting speeds at peak times - Ref.(F004741873)".

So I have quite a simple question really... Why did Virgin let me sign up to a 200Mb package in an area with known congestion issues? If current users are experiencing slow downs at peak times, why the hell would it be a good idea to open another 200Mb pipe and let the congestion get worse? And if there are known issues, why is it only being "reviewed" on April 5th? What are they hoping for between now and then? Divine intervention? The customer dropping dead?

All seems a bit odd to me. I'll see how this plays out over the next few days, and if it doesn't improve I'll use my 14 day cooling off to sign up to Sky instead. I'm gutted. I was really looking forward to using the V6 Tivo box and my BT Sport HD package. But tonight my connection has been lower than 16Mb at times, and I'm getting horrible lag spikes in-game and voice chat. It's making pretty much anything impossible.
