Majorly slow speed

Hi, my download speed has been poor of late being anywhere between 30 and 80mbps even though I have vivid 200 broadband, I have in the past peaked at just over 200mbps but now I'm getting seriously hacked off as I'm only getting 3.5mbps.

Re: Majorly slow speed

Hi Reag7874,

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear you're getting poor speeds. I've just checked your connection to see what could be causing this and can see that you're affected by contention fault F004951096. This will cause poor speeds at peak times such as evenings and weekends and is due for review 01/03/17.

Re: Majorly slow speed

Contention is more traffic being used then the network has to offer.
This happens in all networks. Its impossible to build a network that can give everyone full speeds all the time so its planned as only a small % of people will be using the traffic at once.

for example a 100mbps of traffic might be shared between 10 people on 100mbps.

Re: Majorly slow speed

Hmmm. Too many subscribers using the available bandwidth, causing massive slow downs in speed. Is that a better description? Smiley Wink

Re: Majorly slow speed

That is Over utilisation.

A network doesn;t have a set number of max users. Its own to the usage of the users. So Over utilisation is true. Over subscription is not.

Re: Majorly slow speed

Either way, VM's infrastructure can't supply anywhere near the headline speeds in many areas at peak times. I hope that answers the OP's original question. And it takes VM months, if not years, for them to upgrade their network in those areas.
