Is this just contention ??

Further to a thread in the SamKnows forum. 

Seems my speed drops off a cliff every night between 6pm and 9pm, so is it just contention in the local area ??

Problems after VM said they fixed a local issue !!

It's picked up to over 200Mb/s again, after rebooting the VM Hub2 and my Router (at 16:00), but I still get "contention" in the evening, which drops the download speeds to below 80Mb/s:

It does seem to be contention, as it's around the same time every night and I know it's not me, as internet usage is very light around that time.

I'm on V200, using 

It's a SuperHub2 (VMDG485), running software v1.01.31

They're showing the national increased latency fault [http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Speed/BQM-Graphs-showing-increased-latency/td-p/3358186] which is affecting all VM connections, but that aside, they look pretty good. Presumably the hourly spike is just the SamKnows test?

Evening Cbers,

 

Thanks for posting in the broadband boards, for me to take a look at your connection and apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.

 

From checking your connection, there is a high peak time traffic fault in your area. The reference number is F005059752 and has a review date of 22nd March.

 

I did also notice an issue on the network in regards to SNR (signal to noise ratio) which can cause intermittent connection. I have raised this to our networks department for further investigation. Once there is more information I will let you know.

Hiya Cbers,

 

Just to let you know that the networks team has raised a fault in regards to the SNR. The reference number is F005063016 and has a review date of 15th February.

 

In regards to the high peak time traffic fault, I have sent you a PM (purple envelope icon, right corner) to discuss this further.

Sounds the same as mine.  Has been terrible since before Christmas, support have said there's nothing wrong with my connection.

Engineer has been and swapped the modem, still as bad as ever.  Will be cancelling my contract on Monday and moving somewhere else.

Hi Cbers,

 

Thanks for getting back to me and I am so sorry for the late response.

 

I've checked both the SNR and high peak time traffic faults in your area and they have both been closed down as resolved.

 

With the high peak time fault, you have been moved onto a different cable and the traffic is looking much better. Have you noticed an improvement with the speeds over the past 24 - 48 hours?
