Internet Speed

Hey, Basically I Upgraded my internet around a year ago now so that i get "upto 200Mb" which is simply not the case, For the past week or so my internet has been basically useless in the sense that for one the routing was terrible so i couldn't connect to any type of server hosted in the UK for voice chat etc. Also in the day i have been getting speeds of around 4Mb at max and upto 800ping in servers. When i rang up it was justified by saying that this was "peak times" and that it would be fine after around 9:30 which simply isn't good enough if i pay for internet to be able to use in the day and not the night. What can i do to help fix this situation?

Re: Internet Speed

Unfortunately the only answer is to leave. Have a quick search through this forum and you'll find hundreds of examples, virgin has more customers than bandwidth. When it gets busy we all suffer. Only one solution. Took me 12 months to reach that conclusion, but after promises of work in the area they have revised their estimate for the fourth time, they expect speeds to improve in Manchester after November 2017. Absolutely appalling.

Re: Internet Speed

Hi Peanyy,

I am sorry about your high peak time speeds issue. I can see that you've already been advised about this when calling in and my checks confirm the fault is related to your part of the network.

Strangely I'm not seeing that the traffic is particularly high when I inspect the data from here. And you shouldn't be having speed issues earlier in the day either.

  • How do you normally connect, via Ethernet or wireless?
  • Would you please run some speed tests (via speedtest.net and with a wired connection) and post the results on here?

I'd like to look into this further in case something else is happening.

Looking forward to your reply Smiley Happy

Re: Internet Speed

I have tried both wireless and Ethernet and it makes little to no difference, I have a number of speed test results here:

https://gyazo.com/38dc29891ae2c6056bf5075fb88f5571

As you can see even when the ping is fine the download speed is still affected.

I also have one from earlier today:

I hope Gyazo is fine as it allows me to upload the pictures faster and without having to make them smaller etc.

Re: Internet Speed

Hey Peanyy,

Thanks for getting back to us Smiley Happy

Apologies for the on-going connection problems. I wonder if you're able to perform further tests while your Hub in is Modem Mode and then post back with additional results.

Hope to hear back from you soon,

Take care.

Re: Internet Speed

Update: I have recently rang up again because it got to a point where the internet wasn't usable (Had like 2000+ ping etc.)

Anyway Virgin Media sent out an engineer and fitted a new router and did some other stuff and it is now working perfectly, so far. Thank you guys anyway for trying to help fix my problem, I appreciate it.
